Police Advisory: 50% Increase In Stolen Cycles
The Bermuda Police Service is alerting the public to a significant increase in the number of stolen motorcycles and auxiliary cycles over the past 12 months, reminding all Bermudians to lock and secure their cycles at all times when not in use.
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service has noticed a 50 percent increase since this time last year in the number of reported stolen motorcycles and auxiliary cycles and is seeking the public’s assistance to reverse this apparent trend.
“Members of the public are reminded to lock their cycles using the handlebar lock as well as a supplementary lock before leaving them unattended and to report any suspicious persons or activity around parked cycles in their neighbourhoods, especially unknown individuals using trucks.
“In addition, residents should be wary of unauthorised cycle part suppliers, as the source of their inventory may be suspect.
“Detectives are encouraging anyone with relevant information regarding the whereabouts of suspected stolen motorcycles, auxiliary cycles, or suspected stolen cycle parts to contact the main police telephone number, 295-0011, at the earliest opportunity.”

Just a tip. Don’t leave your keys in your seat lock. That generally helps in preventing your bike from being stolen.
I think it is time to follow the Singapore model, when these thieves are caught, chop their hands off, problem solved!!!!

Jeez – if it went from 2 to 4, don’t you think that would have been a 100% increase? Just saying…
Meanwhile, TPTB keep patting their backs with ‘crime is down’ press conferences.
Thing is, several of the bikes that have been stolen are from public places like car parks.
If the economy is not turned around soon, a lot more than bikes will be stolen and other serious maleficence will happen.
Than there will be travel advisories not to travel here because of the intensity of crime, making it even more difficult to promote Bermuda as a visitors paradise.
My dictionary tells me that is. “Malfeasance” ……. My English teacher would tell me misspelling was a crime!

If you’re going to correct someone, make sure your stuff is in order.
Why are they being stolen? For parts? In the past cycle dealers have been notorious for not keeping parts in stock.
Best way to avoid bike theft is to check with the BPS. Find out which are the most likely models to be stolen.
Don’t buy one of those models. Buy something the thieves are not interested in. Sad I know. If the courts won’t punish appropriately so your best to protect yourself.
Whatever happened to Aceboy who got caught on camera a few weeks ago? Did he have to buy a new bike for the owner he stole from?
In the recent past, Honda Scoopy was a popular one to get stolen, not sure about nowadays.
But to be honest, several thieves just want a joyride or quick “trans” and will try to steal anything, nothing to do with spare parts at all.
Who cares what they want them for ? They steal ‘em because they’re a bunch of little thieves , young and old . And there’s no shortage of them . And erroneously making the excuse that they’re just school children is only paving the way for them to become burglars and house breakers in a few years time , they’re already damn thieves.
It’s a shame that we should be driven to not have what we want because someone else is going to steal it .
I also believe that guy who was caught on video camera recently has appeared in court but may not have yet been sentenced .
lol i just found out my landlord has been stealing electricity from me… lets hope thats not on the rise.. this is the SECOND time this has happened

I will , i moved out of a previous apartment for that same reason. Not only was i paying for someone elses electricity, I was being overcharged by 900 a month. He ended up owing me over 30 thousand dollars. I was hurt because we had a great landlord tenant relationship all the time he was ripping me off. This new one has me shaking my head because they are supposed to be church people. I gave him a chance to be honest by even pointing it .. he must have assumed that i did not know how things worked.I am saddened by this. I own a home and I rent to a family with children delrberately to try to do my part in helping out my fellow bermudians. I keep the rent very low.Have had the same tenants for ten years. We have a great relationship and like you they told me to take it all the way. I have . So far have found out a lot of things on the property never had approval so now an investigation has begun.
