Police: Cycle Thieves Working In Small Groups

March 18, 2014

The police have advised that they believe cycle thieves may be working in small groups, and are likely using trucks to transport the stolen cycles.

Earlier this month the police said there has been 50% increase since this time last year in the number of reported stolen motorcycles and auxiliary cycles.

In a statement today, a police spokesperson said, “Members of the public are reminded to secure their motorcycles and auxiliary cycles using the handlebar lock as well as a supplementary lock before leaving them unattended and to report any suspicious persons or activity around parked cycles in their neighbourhoods.

“It is believed that cycle thieves may be working in small groups, and are likely using trucks to transport the stolen cycles.

“Persons with relevant information regarding the whereabouts of suspected stolen motorcycles, auxiliary cycles or suspected stolen cycle parts should contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity.”

  1. Truth is killin' me... says:

Why don’t you get those cameras working and manned around City Hall parking lot BPS!

    • Micro says:

Pretty sure the COH should be the ones doing that.

  2. Hmmm says:

All trucks need to be licensed, correct? Well set up a bait bike, or camera, or whatever it is and catch the truck driver. Then take away his ability to ever drive a truck again, and take away the ability of the truck owner to ever own a truck again. We’ll see how many trucks there are transporting stolen bikes after that.

    • Ben Dover says:

I think locking the truck driver up in Westgate for many years would take away his ability to drive around stealing bikes.

  3. Kathy S says:

Are you kidding me, this is nothing new. Been happening. I’ve had bikes stolen and they were locked and secured. These criminals do not care. They are hiring trucks for criminal activity. I can speak for one truck owner that didnt even know. Saw a truck in the neighborhood at night called the owner he called the police on them and fortunately he was able to return the furniture. Yes they were prosecuted. Just ridiculous.

  4. Judge & Jury says:

Nothing new with using a truck to steal bikes. These people are driving around at night stealing bikes all over this Island. People be careful, you could lock up your bike but bike parts stealing is good business when the venders sell bikes to us but don’t bring in the parts when we have to repair our bikes to TCD standard. That should be illegal.

Too many friends have had their bike stolen within days of their purchase. Bike insurance is very high now.
BPS – get creative and stop these fiends.

  5. Attention Please says:

Bike thieves are worthless scum, put ball and chain on them like the good old days so no matter where they go we can see them bound, and give them a good public whipping and flogging until they cry like babies. That would be nice to see instead of those rotten animals getting off like it is not a crime!

  6. JUNK YARD DOG says:

All you have to do is booby trap your bike; house; car; boat using ordinary house hold items.

So what if it wakes up all your neighbors.

For Bikes ,hook up a separate personal screech alarm on your bike which goes off when the pin is pulled.

  7. BPS JOKES says:

BPS is a joke. Ask them how many ppl report their bike stolen and they say they can’t do anything. And the guys steal these bikes or strip them and sell them on emoo. And BPS knows about it.
