Student Competing For New School Scholarship
A Bermudian high school student with her eyes set on a full scholarship at Parsons, The New School for Design in New York City has entered the New School Competition, a challenge that could earn her a fully sponsored spot at the institution.
Shanna Hollis, a 17-year-old currently attending Saltus Grammar School, was required to complete three tasks in order to validate her entry. First, she need to take a series of quizzes. Second, she was required to create a video showcasing her work and explaining why she is “New School,” and finally, she had to share that video on Facebook and YouTube in order to draw attention to her cause.
The goal of these tasks is to bring people to Ms. Hollis’ New School Competition page in order to generate supportive comments, increasing her chance of winning the contest.
Ms. Hollis said, “With your assistance, you will be helping me reach my goals of earning a scholarship to Parsons, The New School for Design, attaining my BFA in Visual, and to give back to Bermuda to possibly inspire and influence a more visual and creatively stimulating Bermuda that speaks to the wider world through the use of advertising, and adopting new techniques and skills to promote the island.”
In order to provide support for for talented young artist, the public can visit her New School Competition page and leave a comment explaining why they think she deserves to win the scholarship.
The New School Competition offers three prizes. The first includes a full scholarship for a bachelor’s degree program, the second a partial scholarship for a bachelor’s degree program, and the third an iPad Mini to be awarded to five outstanding entries to the competition.
