World Book Day: 1500+ Books To Be Distributed
Over 1500 books will be distributed to nurseries and preschools throughout Bermuda today [Mar 6] to mark “World Book Day”, after a drive spearheaded by radio personality Nikita Robinson.
Mrs. Robinson praised the community for their support stating, “Through the generosity of our listeners and sponsors including Brown & Company, the Hott 107.5 FM family is able to promote literacy and a love of the written word to the island’s most precious resource – our children”.
The public was invited to sponsor a pre-school or nursery of their choice by purchasing one book for each child. Brown & Company are offering a 10 percent discount to customers purchasing books to donate. Additionally, volunteers will read to the preschoolers today.
Mrs. Robinson continued “We still have a few schools in need of books and readers. Anyone interested in helping us reach our goal can call 297-1076 or email ladiesroom@hott1075.bm to adopt a school, stop by or call Brown & Company at 279-5443 to purchase books for preschoolers age 2 to 5 years or volunteer to read on March 6th World Book Day.”
The staff of Inter-Island Communications have adopted First Church of God Community Nursery & Preschool and will be reading there today.
A few of the island’s politicians will be participating with Minister of Public Safety Michael Dunkley reading at Happy Valley Child Care, Deputy Speaker Suzann Roberts-Holshouser reading at Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy, MP Michael Weeks reading at Creative Touch Home Preschool, while former Cabinet Minister Lt/Col David Burch will be reading at Seasons Learning Center.
