Helene Dill Receives Community Service Award
Bermuda CableVision this morning [Apr 24] awarded Helene Dill, a prolific volunteer and charity organiser, with its Community Service Award in recognition of 34 years of service in various roles.
As part of the Community Service Award, a $1,000 donation from Bermuda CableVision will be given to the charity of Mrs Dill’s choice.
Mrs Dill was presented with the award for her volunteer work at a ceremony held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
The event was attended by the Minister of Community, Culture & Sports Wayne Scott, Bermuda CableVision’s senior management team; along with Mrs Dill’s family and friends.
Mrs Dill, now a senior, began her service as a seven-year-old Brownie and then joined the Girl Guides. She later joined the St. George’s Junior Chambers (Jaycees), a young people’s training organisation.
She started as a charter member and went on to receive the rank of life member and international senator for her hard work and dedication to the organisation. She also worked on the executive board for the Jaycees and led many successful community projects.
In 1991, Mrs Dill joined the Lioness Club (now merged with the Lions Club) and rose through the ranks to become President of both clubs, serving on the executive board and leading many projects. She was a member of Phenomenal Women Inc (now Phenomenal People), a charity that aims to unite, empower and inspire women.
Mrs Dill has also volunteered with the Bermuda Amateur Softball Association on the executive board, Bermuda Track and Field Association, Carifta Games, the Royal Artillery Association Seniors Activity Club as an executive board member, Premier’s Senior’s Tea, Government Seniors Cruise volunteer, The Centre’s Senior’s Activity Club volunteer representative and many other organisations.
Currently, she is part of The Fellowship Circle, a social group comprised of wives of Free Masons that raises educational funds for students, and is the chairwoman for their tea fundraiser.
In addition, Mrs Dill cooks for several seniors who aren’t able to cook for themselves and finds grocery vouchers for needy families.

Mrs Dill says: “I want to thank Bermuda CableVision for this honour. I never expected anything in return for my service. You don’t do things looking for recognition. When I look back, I volunteered because it was something nice to do for others.
“I encourage young people to get out there and volunteer. Get in contact with the Centre of Philanthropy, as there are plenty of charities and volunteer work that you can do. In these difficult economic times, there are a lot of people in the community who need help. ”
Minister of Community, Culture & Sports Wayne Scott said: “Our community is very fortunate to have people like Mrs Dill who sacrifice their time and devote their energy to the community.
“Many people across the island have benefitted from Mrs Dill’s service over the years, especially seniors in recent years. On behalf of the Government of Bermuda, we extend our congratulations to Mrs Dill on receiving this award.”
Terry Roberson, General Manager of Bermuda CableVision, comments: “Mrs Dill is an asset to our community and to the seniors she still helps today. She has spent decades donating her time and skills to help people who need them. Her selfless attitude is inspirational. Today we celebrate her endless community spirit and kindness.”
