Video: CARIFTA Track & Field Team Returns
Bermuda’s medal-winning track & field team returned home this evening [Apr 24] following a successful showing at the 2014 CARIFTA Games in Martinique. The team was greeted by Senator Alexis Swan, as well as their friends and family who cheered them as they walked out of the airport.
Bermuda won five medals in total, placing 9th on the overall medal table. Kyrah Scraders won two medals [800m & 1500m] including a gold, while Sakari Famous [high jump], Jah-Nhai Perinchief [high jump], and Dage Minors [1500m] all added a medal each.
In addition, both Kyrah Scraders and Jah-Nhai Perinchief have qualified for the Youth Olympics, which will be held in August 2014 in Nanjing, China.
The island was represented by a 13-strong team, with the island’s top young track & field athletes competing against the region’s best.
Tiara DeRosa competed in the shot put & discus, Azaire Smith competed in the high jump, Taahira Butterfield competed in the 100m & 200m, Kionje Somner contested the 200m & 400m, Daniel Oatley competed in the 3000m, David Darrell competed in the 800m & 1500m, Michaiah Robinson competed in the 400m & 800m, Chas Smith competed in the triple jump & long jump, while Justin Donawa represented Bermuda in the triple jump.
