May 10, 2014

government-house-open-gardenGovernment House Gardens will be open for the third Sunday in row on May 11 from 12.00pm through 5.00pm, giving the public the opportunity to enjoy its unique scenery.

A spokesperson said, “As a reminder to the public, Government House Gardens will again be open on Sunday from 12.00pm until 5.00pm.

“This will be the third Sunday when the gardens will open as part of a new initiative which will see them open on Sunday afternoons until September, except for Cup Match weekend.

“Families are invited to come and relax and enjoy the space. Entry and exit will be by the North Gate on North Shore Road. Visitors are encouraged to come by foot, pedal bike or use the number 11 bus, which stops near the gate, as there will be no parking allowed on the grounds.

“Visitors are asked to respect the gardens, especially the gardens being run by students from the three Pembroke Parish primary schools, Victor Scott, West Pembroke and Northlands, and are asked to be considerate of others using the grounds by not playing amplified music and by not bringing dogs.

The Governor [pictured above with Mrs. Fergusson chatting to visitors] said, “I have been very pleased to see a whole range of people come to enjoy this wonderful area. I have met people from the immediate area, from across the island, and visitors. I hope others will be able to come and see the views, the birds and relax.”

The fact that there is no parking on the grounds does not encourage seniors, who cannot really step up to the bus, to come.
