Man Remanded After Admitting $4,000 Charge

May 12, 2014

Appearing in Magistrates Court today [May 12], a 23-year-old man was remanded into custody after pleading guilty to receiving over $4,000 worth of goods – including a laptop computer and Nike shoes – when he knew or believed the goods to be stolen.

Initially Troy Robert Harris pleaded not guilty, however after consulting his lawyer, Harris changed his plea to guilty.

Crown Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney described the crime by telling Senior Magistrate Archie Warner that Harris had broken into a man’s house after the man had gone out to work.

Mr Mahoney elaborated that the man was a person who was actively engaged, with the knowledge of Probation Officers, in helping Harris ‘turn his life around’. Mr Mahoney said that a witness had seen Harris break into the house and later leave the scene with a bag.

Mr Mahoney told the Magistrate that Harris had admitted to Police that he had pawned the goods and received over $500 cash from them.

Harris will remain in custody and must re-appear on Friday 16th May.

  4. HEY DIS BIE HERE says:

This is the scum of society, you are receiving help from a person and instead of asking for monetary help you break into the house of the person helping you and then steal from them, that means from the beginning of your relationship with this person the guy helping him was being honest while the criminal was just looking for an opportunity to take advantage of him

    • Tricks are for kids says:

EXACTLY….why “bite the hand that feeds you”…….

  5. Huh? says:

It is my understanding that a charge of receiving may be applied when you are caught with items that have been reported as stolen without evidence that the person in possession of said items actually committed the theft. So,why is he being charged with receiving stolen goods when there is enough evidence for charges of breaking and entering as well as burglary?
