BPSU Supports National Training Plan Part #1
The Bermuda Public Service Union [BPSU] has expressed its support for the National Training Plan Part 1, calling it a “positive step to assist in resolving part of Bermuda’s unemployment crisis.”
BPSU President Jason Hayward said, “The Bermuda Public Service Union would like to commend and congratulate the Minister of Home Affairs Michael Fahy, the National Training Board, and their team for the development of the National Training Plan Part 1.
“We believe that this is a positive step to assist in resolving part of Bermuda’s unemployment crisis. We strongly support the notion that education, training, and access to jobs for Bermudians are critical components to reducing the current unemployment rate.
“We encourage all Bermudians to review the comprehensive plan, especially those younger members in our society who fall between 16-25 years of age, as the unemployment rate amongst this group is at an alarming 36 percent.
“The BPSU strongly supports the public services recommendations set out in the plan, which include:
- Preparing Bermudian university/college graduates for employment in the public sector
- Preparing for retirement of current workers in this sector
- Working towards a sector that employs Bermudians in positions currently held by work permit holders
- Creating a sector workforce that is more efficient and accountable
- Improving budgeting process, ensuring that expenditures do not exceed budgeted amounts
“The BPSU looks forward to further dialogue with the National Training Board team, and are urging the team to commit to the completion of the task identified.”
Sounds good !
