Photos/Video: Heavy Rains Cause Area Flooding
Today’s [Aug 12] weather saw heavy rain showers fall on different parts of the island with some instances of flooding in the streets and at least one property.
At approximately 2:29pm the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a flooding at The Reefs Hotel on the South Shore Road in Southampton.
Fire Service spokesperson Sergeant Russann Francis stated that “The areas involved were a basement walkway approximately 6’ x 20’ containing nearly a half inch of water and an exterior landing approximately 8’ x 5’ which held up to five inches of water. Both areas were flooded due to the excess rain.”
“The Fire Service responded to the incident with one vehicle staffed with 4 firefighters. There was no damage caused in this incident.”
I was one that was happy to have the rain, others where not. Can’t please everyone.
Is that proper use of emergency services? Were lives at risk?
It’s amazing how a puddle can form even tho there’s a huge area below with virtually unlimited capacity where that pooled water can flow downwards to.
W&E should also be out unclogging drains or taking note of areas that need mediation work to improve drainage.
In driving this morning, I noticed areas flooded that have never flooded in the past…obviously the drains need to be cleared.
