Scraders, Perinchief Through To Finals In China
Both Kyrah Scraders and Jah’Nhai Perinchief have qualified for the finals at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China following strong showings in the preliminaries.
Kyrah Scraders ran to a third place finish in heat 2 of the 800m, clocking a time of 2:11.27 which saw her qualify for the B final. Meanwhile Jah-Nhai Perinchief equaled his personal best leaping 2.10m to qualify for the high jump A final.
Gina Evans the Team Manager said, “Scraders was aware that the race was based on time and she demonstrated her maturity and experience as a runner by pushing the pace early having just witnessed the previous heats winning time of 2:05.97.
“No one in her heat was willing to push the pace and Kyrah did what she had to do and led for over 600m or so. We are very proud of fearless Kyrah, she is the type of athlete that always gives a solid 100% effort.”
Chef-de-Mission Katura Horton Perinchief said, “We are all celebrating Jah-Nhai Perinchief’s advancement to the final of the high jump, he was one of only five jumpers to clear 2.10 and did so on the first attempt. Way to go Jah-Nhai! We’ll see him in action again on Saturday.”
