August 29, 2014

The Mirrors Open House was held today [August 29] which recognized some of the “voices of the community, transforming our community one person at a time.”

Minister of Community, Culture and Sports Wayne Scott said, “The Mirrors Programme began in 2007 and since then the organization has worked with more than 2000 adults and almost 750 youth. The Programme has provided each individual the opportunity to transform their lives and live beyond their limitations.

“Participants have been encouraged and supported in accomplishing their goals. Today you will hear from some of those voices, as Mirrors has themed this years’ event ‘Voices of the Community, transforming our community one person at a time”.”

He continued, “The Mirrors Programme is committed to strengthening our youth while transforming our community one person at a time. The organization knows that in order to achieve its mission of unlocking the potential of the youth of Bermuda, adults from the community must play a key role.

“As such, the organization is hosting this open house today. This event is the first step toward adults playing key roles in supporting youth in our community, in experiencing success. For Mirrors to continue to be a success in shaping the youth of Bermuda, we rely on members of the public to volunteer their time and to be a part of the change within our community.

“I would like to use this opportunity to thank those who have been a support to the programme through partnership in various capacities. Thank you to Sandys Middle school, Clearwater Middle School, Dellwood Middle School, Whitney Institute Middle School, Berkeley Institute, and Cedarbridge Academy for partnering with us and allowing us to work with your young people.

“Thank you to the organizations that have supported Mirrors by donating goods and services. Your continuous support allows us to place more resources into programming, and your kindness and generosity are very much appreciated.

“Thank you to our volunteers who work diligently to support our youth in making their goals a reality. Mirrors’ volunteers take on a new way of thinking to support our youth, and like the youth, receive coaching to support them in realizing their personal aspirations. Our volunteers’ time and effort are invaluable to the organization and we would be unable to produce the kind of results that we have without them.

“Now it’s your turn to join these members of the community. How will you challenge yourself to be the change you want to see or enroll a colleague, friend or family member to be that change? Our challenge to you is to become a volunteer with The Mirrors Programme and work with our youth to unlock their potential and transform their lives. ”
