Digicel Bermuda Launches “Data Doctor”
Digicel Bermuda today announced the launch of a new initiative in which mobile customers can have data queries answered on the spot by their Customer Care Director and data specialist, Jakai Franks, also known as “Dr. Data.”
Digicel customers are invited to attend smartphone seminars held at the Church Street retail store and can receive a regular email newsletter addressing common data issues, tips and tricks for all smartphone operating systems.
Radio listeners can tune in to Hott 1075 and have their data questions answered live on air, while TV viewers can enjoy an episode of the Data Doctor Show on Channel 82.
Mobile data users who enjoy Apps such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will have the opportunity to post questions via Digicel social media pages using the hashtag #AskDocData, and Bernews will also carry the Data Doctor articles.
Alistair Beak, CEO of Digicel Bermuda comments, “We decided to implement the Data Doctor Programme to both ensure that consumers are getting the most out of their smartphones and educate mobile customers on the benefits associated with data usage. We are delighted to have partnered with a number of Bermudian businesses such as Hott 1075, Channel 82 and Bernews.com so no customer’s query goes unanswered.”
Digicel Customer Care Director, Jakai Franks adds, “It’s amazing how many questions we get from customers who often times don’t understand the difference between a megabyte and gigabyte and how that translates to usage with their iPhones, Android and BlackBerry Smartphones.
“I’m really excited to play such a vital role in bringing ‘Dr. Data’ to reality as it’s a fantastic opportunity to be able to interact and engage with our customers via this medium alongside our existing Customer Care service.”
The company said, “In conjunction with the Data Doctor programme, Digicel has also launched a Saved by Data campaign making it easier and more affordable for mobile customers to avail of data services.
“As of Monday, September 8th all Digicel Prepaid customers can enjoy a reduced pay as you go data rate of 50c/MB, which will be noticeable whether on a Prepaid Mobile Internet Plan or not – Digicel Top Up credit will now last longer for data users.
“Students can also be saved by data – Double Data – with a valid student ID or letter of enrollment. Student Double Data allows full time students the opportunity to receive a 2GB data plan for the price of 1GB for two years. No voice plan is required with the Student Double Data offer and the 2GB data is capped so there’s no worry of additional data charges at the end of each month.
Smartphone users who occasionally experience a defect or issue with their device that may be affecting its data capabilities can visit the Digicel Smartphone Centre based on Court Street for assistance and repairs.
Alistair Beak continues, “At Digicel, we’ve invested heavily in building the best data network in Bermuda and we are focused on remaining innovative with our plans, products and services to ensure that customers always get the most of their data experience.”

Hi Dr. Data,
Can you please help me. I seem to have this nervous rash due to a huge bill I received from Digicel. Nobody told me I could get this rash just by visiting my family in Miami and checking my Digicel email.
Is there a cure for this hugely painful irritation???
Hi rb,
Other than your painful irritation, I trust all is well. I would prescribe you with the Digicel Roaming Pass to cure your nervous rash. The Digicel Roaming Pass offers up to 80% off standard roaming rates in the US, Canada, UK & Ireland. To collect your prescription and ensure worry-free roaming, simply text ‘ROAM’ to 2451. You can also dial 611 from your Digicel mobile phone or visit a retail store to activate a pass. A Digicel Roaming Pass costs $30.00 for 30 days or can be added to your monthly plan perpetually if you are a frequent traveller. Please let me know if this helps. Thanks, Dr. Data.
I think that “rb” works for Digicel. Lol
I guess it’s nice that Digicel has lowered its rates. They finally realized that they can’t charge so much for data. I guess they sucked enough blood out of their customers. I’ll never go back to Digicel. Service is too poor for the prices they charge. Having to sit by a window to make/receive a call is ridiculous.
