St George’s: “Most Beautiful Coastal Towns”
St. George’s has been named as one of the “Most Beautiful Coastal Towns” in the October issue of Travel + Leisure magazine, which described the east end town by saying, “The Town of Saint George dates back to the early 17th century.
“Today, you can visit St. Peter’s, the oldest Anglican church in the Western Hemisphere, built in 1612, and the Unfinished Church, with its majestic stone arches. Other buildings have a decidedly tropical feel: white limestone roofs and exteriors painted in vibrant hues of pink, yellow, blue, and orange.”
In 2000, Bermuda’s historic town of St. George and its related fortifications joined an elite group of global treasures including Stonehenge and the Great Wall of China in being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
“The town of St. George presents a unique opportunity for people to learn about and to experience Bermuda’s culture, traditions and heritage,” says the St. George’s Foundation. “After 400 years of continuous occupation St. George’s remains a living town.”
“The town today retains its tightly knit network of buildings, streets, alleys, parks, squares and monuments reflecting its long and varied past and the changing role it has played in Bermuda’s history.”
It can be all yours ,just buy my condo !
Just reading this article makes one proud to say: “I am Bermudian”:-)
I read the oct issue and didn’t see it about a week ago. Went back and reread it and still don’t see it. Guess it’s only online, not in print copies.
Take some pictures and level the place. It’s impractical. All of the spaces are too small to achieve business scale in such a high cost environment. It reflects the problem facing most of Bermuda.
St Georges needs to re invent its self ! Like Yesterday !
Appoint 100 people like they have in St Augustine Florida to manage the Town properly.
We are selling HISTORY here, dress accordingly , no “T” shirts.
Go to Williamsberg Va for the conceptual ideas.

Please come and visit our town, we are so lucky to be a 400 year old living town, not a historic recreation.
Others are better placed than me to comment on many of your points however,
#94 – take the time to speak with our seniors who are holders of knowledge and experience and who give of it so very graciously. Or better still, speak to visitors who have visited Tucker House and had the experience of meeting one of the senior volunteers who tell the tales of Bermuda’s connections to the fledgling United States. M1 student Jade and P6 student AJ have done just that and on occasion, when schools are closed, serve as junior volunteers who have learned from our wonderful seniors.
#92 come and visit Bermuda Memories, David Rose, Pieceworks, SeaGlass Studio, the Endemic Arts Collective, La Garza among many others – all Bermuda made quality merchandise sold by passionate Bermudians. See the marvelous Bermuda made art at the BNG east in the wonderful Bridge House Gallery and the incredible architecture of the town – all Bermuda made. Oh and while you are at it eat in the town for Bermuda made quality food – Angelines, Gojo’s, Sweet Saak Bakery, Soccer and Friends, White Horse, Wahoos, Tempest, Temptations, CV Cafe, Beach House, Griffins, Waterfront Tavern, Art Mels, Golden Dragon yep we have something for every one – and in advance, I apologize as I may have forgotten someone as we have such riches in the East!

#90 says /// Thank you to the one person who offered support and encouragement.
The three of you to date who “Dislike” the comments and suggestions.
The view to re- vitalize the Town of St George’s there those who are apparently are quick to apply condemnation with out the slightest attempt to make positive recommendation with vision; demonstrates applied detrimental negativity to the growth and prosperity for the Nation and in particular for the residents of the East end.
Would it be too much to ask for some positive feed back as Bermuda is recovering from a State of Depression ?
We can not exactly set up a Roulette table in the Town Square !
