TechAwards Nomination Process Underway
The Ministry of Education and Business Development announced the launch of the Technology Innovation Awards nomination process for 2014, which allows locals to nominate businesses in the Innovation of the Year, Innovative Youth Program of the Year, Mobile Application of the Year and People’s Choice category.
Dr. Grant Gibbons, Minister of Education and Economic Development stated: “The Department of E-Commerce established the TechAwards to recognize the Bermuda residents and Bermuda-based organizations and companies which have provided technology solutions that have inspired us, made our lives better, and showcased Bermuda as a location that consistently acts as a launch pad for not just innovation, but achievement as well.
“The TechAwards go a long way in showcasing Bermuda as a sophisticated technology and e-business jurisdiction every day, everywhere, for everyone. We look forward to the public’s participation in this community-driven effort as we launch the nomination process to seek out those innovative achievements worthy of merit.”
The public is the driving force in the Department of E-Commerce’s efforts to recognise the outstanding achievements being made in Bermuda’s information technology industry. The twofold process begins with the public submitting nominations for Bermuda’s best in technology at the TechAwards website www.techawards.bm.
Nominations are being sought for 4 specific categories:
- 1] Innovation of the Year – International
- 2] Innovation of the Year – Local
- 3] Innovative Youth Program of the Year
- 4] Mobile Application of the Year.
These are submitted by the TechAward Committee to a panel of distinguished judges who evaluate each nominee and select the top three entries in each category for recognition.
The judging panels for these 4 categories will meet the week of November 3rd to evaluate all of the nominees. The top 3 in each category will be selected for recognition. Public notification of the selections will be released on November 14th.
In addition, public nominations for the ever so popular People’s Choice Award will follow the same initial process. Nominations as being sought for entities showcasing attributes such as the best business solution using technology, the best customer service from a technology company, the best local e-commerce web site, or the best local social media platform.
Nominations for all TechAwards are being accepted from September 8th through October 31st at the TechAwards website www.techawards.bm.
Once again the public will be asked to weigh in with voting for the People’s Choice Award beginning October 1st based on unique “likes” on the TechAward Bermuda Facebook page. The TechAwards Committee will recognize the five nominees receiving the most “likes” prior to the deadline. People’s Choice voting on Facebook will run from October 1st to 31st.
The TechAwards, including People’s Choice will be presented on Thursday, November 20th in conjunction with the Global Entrepreneurship Week’s Celebration of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The public is welcome to attend this event and the specific time and location will be listed on the TechAwards Bermuda Facebook page.
Joining the Department of E-Commerce on the GEW Bermuda Host Committee is the Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative of Bermuda and Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.
Michael Fahy, Minister of Home Affairs stated “Global Entrepreneurship Week, of which BEDC is pleased to be a part, continues to provide the local entrepreneurial community with opportunities to showcase their talent and to reward those who are innovative and willing to take the necessary risks to think outside of the box.
“In particular, I wish to recognise one of the featured events of the week, the TechAwards, which allow local entrepreneurs to be recognized for their achievements in technology.
“During GEW, Bermuda joins the world in celebrating innovation and it is fitting that this annual event is held during this week. I look forward to seeing who will be nominated for this year’s TechAwards and to celebrating the achievements of our local innovators.”
