October 14, 2014

[Updated] The threat of approaching Hurricane Gonzalo has forced some changes to the upcoming Canadian Accredited Independent Schools [CAIS] football tournament, scheduled to start on Thursday [Oct 16].

Organisers will hold a truncated tournament starting tomorrow [Oct 15] and end on Thursday evening. Games will be played throughout the day and the evening at the National Sports Centre and the BFA field.

A spokesperson said, “The threat of Hurricane Gonzalo has obviously had an impact on the upcoming Canadian Accredited Independent Schools [CAIS] football tournament, scheduled to start on Thursday.

“We have four teams on-island, thirteen flying in today, and five scheduled to fly in tomorrow. We [the coaches] are all meeting this evening to discuss the situation and determine the format of the tournament. Some schools have decided not to travel, and some may decide to return early. Nevertheless, we will hold a truncated tournament for those who are here.

“The tournament will start tomorrow and end on Thursday evening. Games will be played throughout the day and the evening at the National Sports Centre and the BFA field. Once we have determined the exact number of teams we will forward the schedule.”
