Tropical Storm Warning Issued For Bermuda

[Updated] The Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the island, saying that subtropical depression seven is “a potential threat to Bermuda.”

The BWS said that the storm’s closest approach to Bermuda within 72 hours is forecast to be 107 nautical miles to the southeast at 7.00am on Sunday, October 12.

The BWS added, “A few showers will be around this afternoon through tomorrow, with a chance of thunder in advance of a newly-formed Subtropical Depression 500 nm to our south.

“This system will likely become a Subtropical Storm, passing to our east during the weekend, with developing strong winds, gale-force gusts and patchy rain and showers. High pressure brings rapid improvement by Monday.”

Update Oct 10, 6.11am: The storm has now become “Subtropical Storm Fay,” and the BWS has amended their text from is “a potential threat to Bermuda” to is a “threat to Bermuda.”

They also amended the “Tropical Storm Watch” to a “Tropical Storm Warning.”

Their latest update, at 6am today, said Fay’s closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 69 nautical miles to the east-south-east at 2am on Sunday October 12.

“The Tropical Storm Watch for Subtropical Storm Fay has been upgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning,” the BWS said. “This system will pass near to our southeast early Sunday, with gale-force northeast to north winds in elevated and exposed areas, along with patchy rain, showers–heavy at times–and thunder. Increasing swell will create hazardous conditions this weekend.”
