CAC: Bermuda Fall To Dominican Republic

The Bermuda women’s hockey team took on the Dominican Republic in their second game of the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico.

Bermuda came close to getting on the scoreboard first when a long ball forward came back off the upright and with the Dominican Republic goalkeeper losing her footing while trying to clear the ball, a Bermuda forward and a Dominican Republic defender battled for the ball before it was cleared away for a corner.

The game’s first goal came in the 9th minute when Agustina Birocho scored a Field Goal, this after some good play from the back. Dominican Republic went up 2 – 0 in the 20th minute, a hard ball into the D was deflected by Albania Marte pass the Bermuda goalkeeper Antoinette Rabain.

The Bermuda team continued to fight looking to pull a goal back, but they found themselves down 3 – 0 in the 32nd minute when Birocho scored her second Field Goal of the game, on the stroke of half time Bermuda conceded another goal, this time from a Penalty Corner off the stick of Benifer Moronta.

In the second half the Bermuda team gave everything they had in order to get back into the game, but it was the Dominican Republic who scored the only goal of the half in the 44th minute which was a Field Goal off the stick of Lucia Navamuel, to finish with a 5-0 win.
