Murder Charge: Prince Edness Found Not Guilty

November 21, 2014

[Updated with video] The jury has returned a verdict in the Prince Edness trial, finding him not guilty of the murder of Jason Lightbourne.

Around 4am on 23rd July, 2006, 18 year old Mr. Lightbourne was behind the wheel of a white Daihatsu Charade sedan car traveling in a westerly direction on Ord Road in Paget when he was shot and killed.

Mr Edness appeared to pass out when the verdict was read. We will update with additional information as able.

Update 2.16pm: Detective Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro is presently speaking outside the Court about the verdict, and we will update with that video as able. He said while they are “disappointed in the verdict, they remain committed to ensuring justice.”

Update 2.49pm: Video statement from Detective Pedro

  6. My opinion says:

this is sad! Bermuda you are pathetic!! Jason rest your soul and haunt those that was involved!

  7. Dockyard Lackey says:

This is another classic example of why the jury system should be dropped in Bermuda. A professional panel of three judges should be hearing these cases. Bermuda is too small to get jurors for the many cases in court, who are impartial and in several cases related to the defendants either through family ties or socially.

  8. NO MORE WAR says:

    Sad

Which page of testimony backs up your comment Drifter.

    • enough says:

I guess I’m missing your point.
You admit to your offence, so you should be guilty. This man denied his and a jury of his peers acquitted him. Have your own views, sure, but your statement is nonsensical.

  16. Ja yout says:

Big up to my bredren! Not guilty thats what up! Tru… ya seen. See you soon bra!

    • itmustbesaid says:

      You are one **** !

    • the truth says:

Jah yout I wish you would understand there is more to life. You and prince are both smart guys and should be using your influence on impressionable young people in better ways. You feel justified…..but an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. You and prince both could have done so much for Bermuda and our people….. At the end of the day you are both alone and it’s a shame. If you truly don’t want to help Bermuda stay in England and run with some boys that will show you what hard is. Hard is not taking people’s lives or robbing it’s helping and providing for more than just your family. We have all had a hard road but if you don’t get over your so called devilish ways etc that you posted it will eat you up. You and him have both done bad but you could turn it around and help the young of tomorrow and some of the monsters you help create.

  20. imyourGOD says:

you are all bloody related WHAT DO U THINK WOULD HAPPEN IDIOT PEOPLE

  21. Not Surprised says:

The justice system foundation is based on the presentation of evidence. In this case the prosecution did not present enough evidence to convince the jury. If we start to convict people based on what we think then this world would be chaos. Yes we have our opinions but in the court of law it is the evidence that matters. In this case the prosecution fell short. Well done Marc Daniels and his defense team. My sympathy goes out to Jason family.

    • Bye darn de rerd says:

Too right, those cops you used to import a few years ago need to come back to gather the evidence in a professional manner. Your little island is just one big family and the administration of true justice is obstructed by nepotism at every bend in the road.

I am an atheist, but for the 95% of your residents, I give you this quote:

The basic nature of God’s Justice: GALATIANS 6: 7-9 (KJV) 7: Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

  22. imyourGOD says:

The …… population esteemed leadership from the past said there are no gangs HERE. BLIND LEADING THE BLIND
Do not put your trust in people that dont know what they are doing, and have children in these gangs. WAKE UP

  23. No Justice, No Peace... says:

For high profile cases and other sensitive cases where the defendant is known to have a lot of “friends, families and connections” in the local community, Bermuda needs to seriously consider including expats/work permit holders and PRC holders in their jury pool.

    • No justice says:

yes I really agree. All I can say is that yesterday’s verdict is unreal.

  24. Oh,I see now says:

It is apparent looking at the like/dislike on the comments that very few people like this cat outside of a baby mama or two.

  25. No justice says:

Sleep in Peace Jason. God will see justice for you.

  26. iamme says:

I notice that when it has to do with one particular side they always get caught and most of the time they are retaliating but the others they neverrrrr do…. hmmmm I wonder why! not really trying to take sides but…..

    A little too prescient, this.
