Photos: Saunders Family Celebrates Matriarch
On November 9, 2014, seven of ten siblings representing the children of Uliah Obrenlet Saunders rode the public bus from Hamilton to The Reefs in honour of their mother.
All of the siblings have passed the age of 65 and range upward in age to 85-years-old. Including Lois Dill, Perry Saunders, Florence Ming, John Saunders, Robert Saunders, Verna Bullock, Sherma Calder, Edward Saunders, Veronica Zuill and Dennis Saunders, those riding the bus displayed their Bermuda Special Persons card with pride.
Dennis Saunders said, “Our mother was a faithful and active member of Heard Chapel until her passing in 1978. Rev. Hassell, himself a very family oriented man, paid a special tribute to her and the family during the morning service.
“He stated how important family is and to know that all ten siblings are alive and well. The entire congregation seemed to agree as they joined him in congratulating the family. Mrs. Taylor talked of how our mother and her grandmother were very good friends.
“She also spoke about how our mother was so giving of her baked goods around the neighbor-hood even though there were many of us and not much funds.”
The siblings, joined by extended family, wrapped up the day with brunch at The Reefs Resort & Club.
Very nice a family that prays together will stick together. Great foundation.
