25 Food Hampers For Needy In St. George’s
On Saturday, December 20, 2014, the St. George’s Parish Council will be gathering together at the St. George’s Youth Centre at 9.00am to put together 25 food hampers for the needy in St. George’s Parish, and then distribute them.
A spokesperson said, “The public is invited to attend and witness first-hand the good works in action at this festive time of year. The names of the those residents who will benefit come from the four area MPs and from members of the Parish Council.
“Items that can be placed in the hampers include whole chicken, stuffing mix, canned vegetables, potatoes, evaporated milk, macaroni, cheddar cheese soup, cans of yams, cans of black eyed peas, cake mix, frosting, bottles of ketchup, Tetley’s tea, Cornflakes, Pringles, single serving bowls of Crispix cereal, and Ragu sauce.
“We would like to thank the following sponsors and contributors, without whom it would not have been possible to do this project, including the BGA Group of Companies, Butterfield and Vallis, The MarketPlace, Bermuda Pest Control, and Cristy Johnston.
“All of these businesses and individuals either gave products to be included in the hampers or they donated funds or discounted prices in order that the items may be obtained.
“We cannot over emphasize the importance such individuals and businesses play in making it possible for organizations such as the St. George’s Parish Council to facilitate such an event, bringing a little joy into the lives of those less fortunate.
“At this time of year it is a joy for the St. George’s Parish Council to be able to close out its activities for the year by getting into the Christmas spirit and doing such an event.
“We can only hope that the members of the public, in particular, those in St. George’s, will come to appreciate the work that the St. George’s Parish Council undertakes in order to see the Parish thrive.”
