Dion Hart Released, Murder Charges Dropped
[Updated] Dion Hart — had been remanded in custody earlier this week after being charged with the murder of Prince Edness – was today [Dec 19] released from custody, with officials confirming that the case against him was “discontinued” following the ”receipt and review of new evidence in the investigation.”
Mr Hart had been remanded in custody on December 16th after being charged with the murder of Prince Edness. He re-appeared in Magistrates Court this afternoon, where the charges were dropped.
A spokesperson from the Department of Public Prosecutions said, “Further to the receipt and review of new evidence in the investigation of the murder of Mr Prince Edness, the case against Mr Dion Hart was discontinued today.”
On December 7th, police responded to a shooting that took place in Southampton, which saw 29 year old Prince Edness fatally shot, and the suspect[s] fire at a police officer who was chasing them.
Update 5.11pm: Assistant Commissioner of Police James Howard said, “The Bermuda Police Service continues to progress the investigation into the murder of Prince Barrington Edness. Mr. Dion Hart was arrested and charged based on compelling evidence.
“We continue to leave no stone unturned and and having received further evidence after consultation with the Department of Public Prosecutions and in the interest of Justice a Discontinuance of Prosecution against Mr. Hart was filed for his immediate release.
“Great efforts are being made to locate and arrest other person(s) who are not before the court at this time.”

Justice served.
WTF. WTF. WTF. Then what were the cops holding this man on?
Why does it matter what they were holding him on? He’s innocent and the charges have been dropped. That’s what’s important.
No More War is asking a legitimate question.
BPS arrest people first, THEN try to find evidence to make it stick. Questions should also be asked of the staff at the DPP office that review the police file, then decide whether charges should be brought forward. If the police have little evidence, the DPP should send the file back and ask the police to come back when they have more concrete evidence. That is why they lose so many cases, with their sloppy non-existent evidence.
I had a friend that was arrested on hearsay and went through almost two years of hell before the DPP abruptly dropped charges against him. No apology, no explanation, nothing. Then he was left to pick up the pieces and rebuild his life, good name and finances due to lawyer’s fees.
They are messing with people’s constitutional rights and getting away with it.
@ self, well said
How many other people have the police charged with murder n have been found guilty? I know for a fact that it is innocent people in westgate for crimes they havent done!!!
there’s a useless 4 letter word,it starts with S has h,i and t in it,you are full of it.
Sure u do
If that’s the case why don’t you present your evidence to the courts so they can do something about it instead of bragging?
Yeah. Funny how they all got found guilty isn’t it.
Its called people not wanting to snitch so they take the fall. I’m sure he is correct in saying there maybe innocent people up West Gate. Sad but true. Thank god this young man has been released and I can only imagine how he was treated while being held for something he didn’t do.
And have they tried for appeal or do they just like that much there….
Their are**
he was charged for murder because of “compelling evidence”…com·pel·ling

not able to be refuted; inspiring conviction.
“compelling evidence”
synonyms: convincing, persuasive, cogent, irresistible, powerful, strong, weighty, plausible, credible, sound, valid, telling, conclusive, irrefutable, unanswerable
oh well i guess he gave his side of the story which led to the ”receipt and review of new evidence in the investigation.”
It’s really sad the way people’s names are being permanently slandered over the Internet. Shame shame. He’s innocebt but his life will never be the same
Innocent until proven guilty.
Don’t you mean guilty until proven innocent…that’s what happened here. Feel for this young man
The young man was NOT found guilty of anything. He was merely charged (wwhich is only a fancy legal term for suspected /accused).
How can you even say that? They investigated and let him go.
Next time someone is shot you’ll all be complaining the police aren’t doing enough.
Just like a family shouldn’t have to bury their child, they also shouldn’t have to watch him/her incarcerated for a crime they didn’t do. I know all too well what it feels like going through a murder trial with your family member. The pain feels the exact same way as losing someone to death. Who feels it knows! While I am happy for this man, I’m still hopeful that the BPS bring the real culprits to justice.
As much as I’d been, “somewhat excited” at the time when hearing an individual had been apprehended for the murder of Prince Edness I am equally happy hearing Justice has been also served according to our Laws…
Bermuda we need to stop this madness! How many of you told your children that you love them today! If not do it now and hold them tight! Do it everyday and let’s see how love changes it all! Only love can save us all! Listen to them n be there for them before the gangs take them in so they know that love is at home. Let’s save our sons and daughters from this madness!
I told you so. I give credit to the BPS for doing the right thing. However if it werent for the video footage putting him in a different place at the time of the crime he may have been convicted. Close call.
Bermuda Police are so full of IT!!!! Now you have labelled another black male who was nowhere near the crime scene. This is one time ‘cameras’ were working. Hold your head up D!!
Seems the authorities were feeling the pressure to make an arrest, and we end up with this shambles.
Boom shaka laka
