Woman Ordered To Pay $6K In Fines Today

December 12, 2014

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Dec 12], Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a 24-year-old woman to pay approximately $6,000 in outstanding fines today or serve 100 days in prison in default.

The Magistrate gave Courtney Lambert until 31st March 2015 to pay $3,500 in new fines that were imposed today. The old fines were for multiple traffic offences which included driving a car whilst not covered by third party insurance and driving an unlicenced car.

The new offences, to which Ms Lambert plead guilty this morning, occurred in June 2014 and September 2014, and also included offences of driving a car whilst not covered by third party insurance and driving an unlicenced car.

In all cases, the same car was involved.

After reading this I can think of one car that truly deserves to be seized and clamped for the sake of the rest us.

  2. Raymond Ray says:

@ Family Man: That should be food for thought. Why was she able to drive for so long without being apprehended?

hmmm….$6000 or 100 days..? sooo $18,000 would get you 300 days or 365 days roughly $21,000..? SO WHY DOES IT COST $80,000/year to house a westgate prisoner..??

    • X man says:

      good Question????
Thats why its important to keep this individual out of our Correction Facilitys.–
It is expesive to house inmates because of the following-
[1] The cost of Correction Officer – and trust me’ this ia one Stressfull, Dangerous and Demanding Jobs in Bermuda
most critics couldn’t even last 20 minutes on this Job.
[2] Food – try feeding several hundred people three times a day and see how much it cost!
[3] Electricity – yep to run Wesgate,Co-ed and the Prison Farm it takes a lot of Power – turn off the lights
and sombody is Dead or your most liable to come incontact with an Inmate or inmates who escaped because of no lights.
[4] Clothing – Geesh I complain about the cost of Clothing with the 3 Chilren I have -imagine clothing for close to 300
inmates and almost 140 Correction Officers $$$$$ oh yeah’
Keeping it real – I can go on and on about the cost — it would take up the entire page – the above is just the beginning.

      • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

so 300 inmates at $80,000/inmate/year =$24,000,000/year total, is this what you’re saying??

enough land up there for solar…if not solar, what about a farm…they can grow their vegetables and maybe raise a few cows for milk or slaughter for their meat ONCE A WEEK….chickens for eggs….why does everything have to come from corporate wholesalers..? i know why…how many of you know why..? as for clothing…if they wanna wear clothes, then make them by providing an in-house tailor shop…do you see the learning curves here…they go in illiterate then exit with knowledge to continue on to a successful crime free life. As for the ones that totally refuse to work then in return we accommodate them by TOTALLY REFUSING TO FEED THEM…no work no eat…

Xmen…I can go on and on about the solutions — it would take up the entire page – the above is just the beginning.

    • JUNK YARD DOG says:

It would not cost $80,000 for a stay at Westgate if you give the bill for the reservations to the parents.

  4. Bermuda First says:

Because the multi-million dollar system that was supposed to track unlicensed has not worked in years

    • Whistling Frog says:

@ Bermuda First: Get it right. It hasn’t worked since the OBA has been in power.

      • Bermy says:

Um wrong it hasn’t worked snide about 9 months after it was installed.

  5. X man says:

I can only describe this persons actions, Bull Headed, and definitely a chance taker.
Only the Wealthy or the absoulute Follish have $ 6000 Dollars to thow away — in this case it’s to the Courts.
I’m glad that the Magistrate didn’t incarcerate the individual because the Bull Headness would have cost us [ the People ]
more than the $6000 fine.— make her pay the fine not us.

  6. ImJustSayin says:

oh thank God they got this criminal! Give me a break.

  7. The Ombudsman looks at the story and then says:

she should just talk to her job and take a 100 day leave of absence go to jail and chill for a while

  8. Common Cents says:

The vehicle she was driving should be impounded until the fines are paid.

  9. Bermerican says:

No way! Why would she want to just sit in jail over fines? I don’t know her but I pray she comes up with the money. Times are hard in Bermuda. So sad that people are incarcerated because they can’t afford to pay their bills. Something needs to be done about that!
