G&S Society Presenting ‘The Met: Live in HD’

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society [G&S] is getting set to present the next season of ‘The Met: Live in HD’ operas on film in Bermuda, set to run on Saturdays at 5.00om in the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] auditorium, beginning on January 10, 2015.

A spokesperson said, “The next season of ‘The Met: Live in HD’ operas in Bermuda start on Saturday, 10 January, 2015. Verdi’s Macbeth star soprano Anna Netrebko delivers her searing portrayal of Lady Macbeth, the mad and murderous mate of Željko Lučić’s doomed Macbeth, for the first time at the Met.

“Adrian Noble’s chilling production of Verdi’s masterful adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy also stars Joseph Calleja as the noble Macduff and René Pape as Banquo. Fabio Luisi conducts. The approximate running time is 3:15. The opera is sung in Italian with English subtitles.”

The season will continue as follows:

  • 31 January – Le Nozze di Figaro [Mozart]
  • 21 February – Carmen [Bizet]
  • 7 March – Il Barbiere di Siviglia [Rossini]
  • 21 March – The Merry Widow [Lehár]
  • 18 April – Les Contes d’Hoffmann [Offenbach]
  • 2 May – Iolanta [Tchaikovsky] / Bluebeard’s Castle [Bartók]
  • 16 May – La Donna del Lago [Rossini]
  • 30 May – Cavalleria Rusticana [Mascagni] / Pagliacci [Leoncavallo]

Tickets, which cost $35 each, $30 for students, or $30 each for packages of five or more, can be purchased online at gands.bm and ptix.bm, or purchased at the door with cash, cheque, or credit card.

There will be a pre-performance and intermission cash bar and complimentary hors d’oeuvres at the interval.
