Photos & Video: Seafarers Service In St David’s

January 19, 2015

The Chapel of Ease in St. David’s held their Annual Seafarers Service on Sunday morning [Jan 18], with people gathering to pay their respects to seafarers and those lost at sea.

The service began with the “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” hymn and ended with the “Will your anchor hold” hymn, both of which are traditionally associated with seafarers.

Those in attendance included the Bishop of Bermuda Rt. Rev. Nicholas Dill, Reverend W David Raths, Director of Marine and Ports Lt Cdr Richard Russell, executives from the Bermuda Industrial Union, MP Suzann Roberts Holshouser, members of the Bermuda Sea Cadets, members of Marine and Ports and more.

.

In describing the service, the church’s website says: “Bermuda’s seafarers gather together at the Chapel of Ease in St David’s to pay their respects to their comrades lost at sea. St David’s Islanders in particular have always had a strong association with all things maritime. Following the service, memorial wreaths are taken out by boat and committed to the waters of the sea.”
