Seafarers Celebrated At Annual Services
Bermuda’s seafarers were celebrated and remembered at two Sea Sunday Memorial Services last month.
The St Luke AME Church in St George’s marked the Sea Sunday Anniversary on January 12, with Pastor Milton Burgess welcoming the Bermuda Branch Pilots and all those who work on the island’s waters to the annual service.
Following the service, Pastor Burgess carried out the first official ceremony for the new pilot boat St George, with a special blessing and prayers at the Pilot Dock in Ballast Point in St David’s.
Meanwhile, the Chapel of Ease in St David’s and St Peter’s Church, St George’s, marked their Sea Sunday Service on January 28, which was attended by members of the boating community and shipping partners, including Chris Fubert, the Bermuda Industrial Union president, WISTA Bermuda, Meyer Shipping, the Bermuda Coast Guard, Norwegian Ferry operators, and the Department of Youth and Sports.
Pilot warden Mario Thompson recognised 14 young mariners in the shipping industry, crewing on motor yachts or studying maritime business overseas.
The wreath-laying ceremony was held for the Memorial for the Lost at Sea at Great Head Park, St David’s.
