Tokio Youth Mountain Bike Series At Arboretum
Parents who are looking to help start the New Year off right for their children are invited to bring them to the Arboretum on Saturday, January 10, for the continuation of the Tokio Millennium Youth Mountain Bike Race.
The free series sponsored by Tokio Millennium Re, Bicycle Works and sanctioned by the Bermuda Bicycle Association, has the aim to introduce primary school aged children to cycling as a way to help promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles.
So while many parents hit the gym as part of a New Year’s resolution, they can help their children get involved by taking part in this series of fun races. The emphasis of the event is on fun rather than being a competitive race.
The event gives even the youngest child a chance to gain confidence in riding a bicycle and to practice basic principles of strength, coordination and motor development. The ‘races’ are divided into categories so children can participate with kids their own age and in a safe, friendly environment.
Children can use any kind of bicycle [even those with training wheels or a toddler push bike]. Parents must ensure that each child has a helmet and wears closed toe, athletic shoes.
There is an advanced course for older children or those who feel they are ready for a new challenge. With the help of riders from Fat Tire Massive, kids will be able to take off on an adventure course through the Arboretum.
This is a free, fun, family event that mums, dads, grandparents, guardians, siblings and family friends can enjoy as they cheer on children on the Arboretum course. The Cuppa van will also be present mixing up free lattes or other hot beverages for everyone.
Each week there are fabulous draw prizes and every child who participates will get a goody bag upon registering for the first time. At the end of the seven-race series, one child’s name will be drawn as the grand prize winner to take home a bicycle from Bicycle Works [January 31].
