ACBDA Release America’s Cup Progress Report
Today [Feb 26], the ACBDA released a progress report and an infographic to show a road map forward — from winning the bid to host the America’s Cup to the line-up of events to play out in Bermuda during the summer of 2017.
CEO Mike Winfield said,“We are pleased and excited about the opportunities the America’s Cup will create over the next several years as well as the legacy benefits for many years to come for Bermuda and its people.”
An infograph was created for local media outlets and the general public to use as reference source. The graphic can be found at here, and is also located below.
Mr. Winfield added, “While are still in the beginning stages to engage the wider community in America’s Cup-related activities, we are making progress.
“Within the next few weeks we will be selecting a public relations and communications team to assist us in the very important task of community engagement and outreach. We were pleased to have interest from 11 parties and the communications committee ultimately reviewed the 8 proposals submitted by organizations and individual alliances.”

Yikes. The info graphic leads one to believe this is going to cost us a whole lot of money. The symbolism is scary. $
Yikes. The info graphic leads one to believe this is going to be a very well organised event with many spinoffs and opportunities for the “glass half full” crowd. For the rest – google America’s cup. Pick yourselves up, dust off and be the change you want to see. No good being an Israelite wondering the desert for 40 years complaining about how good it used to be. This is an opportunity like no other!
There will be plenty who will leave it till April or May of 2017 before they go looking to be a part.
Way too late
Those will be the ones first to moan about how they did not benefit or were shut out.
Arrow is pointing to us … money coming in.
Can someone explain the Legacy Benefits of shared sense of pride, I hope its not like the shared sacrifice.
At what point should I be proud to be Bermudian after a sailboat race.
If you won ten million dollars you would complain that it wasn’t twenty. What a complete loser you are.
Get a life – you clearly don’t have one.

Spot On!!
Because sailing regardless of colour, black, white, etc has been one of the richest parts of our history as Bermudians you loser!
Yup, just like the Yacht Clubs didn’t allow… regardless of color, black, white ,etc?
Cue the sound of violins…
This is a gift to Bermuda at exactly the right time.
There’s something for just about everyone – except for those who sit, complain – and then wonder why they didn’t benefit.
Get moving Bermuda.
i’m not so sure of bob’s initial outlook on returns from hosting this event, already team nz has cut over 20 mil. from their budget, with every team member taking a significant pay cut… sponsors pulling out, and its still early days, the acbda office isn’t even open yet.
The Team NZ announcement was not unexpected. Bermuda’s location was chosen to help cater to the European market, which has four teams. There’s more money to be made off of the European rights compared to New Zealand and Australia. Not good for the Aussies, who pulled out, and the Kiwis, but great for the other four countries. If there was more money to be made off of the South Pacific nations, San Diego would have been chosen to host the event at the expense of the Europeans.
I can’t wait for these races. Does Bermuda have a team or boat?
