Registration To Open For Drum Line Camp
The Bermuda National Drumline Academy [NDA] registered charity #756 is opening up its February Drum camp to all students interested in participating in the Bermuda National Marching Band.
A spokesperson said, “Established in 2006, the focus of the NDA has been geared towards providing middle and high school students the opportunity to learn fundamental skills necessary to perform with a drumline, and full marching band.
“The goal of the NDA is to encourage academic excellence, promote good moral character, while improving the development of musicianship.
“The NDA has performed locally, attended overseas band camps, as well as local camps with international instructors. This year, the NDA has restructured the organization to incorporate a full scale marching band.
“The NDA hopes to attract students island-wide that play instruments, and dance to participate. The goals set forth by the NDA for the Bermuda National Marching Band is to perform locally, compete in international competitions, march in widely televised parades [such as the Macy’s Day or Rose Bowl Parade], and be invited to perform at international venues.”
Dennis Parsons, NDA presidents states “Bermuda has too much young talent not to showcase on a national level, and perform on the international stage. I’m looking forward to expanding the NDA to facilitate the Bermuda National Marching Band, while building a program that will be internationally recognized.”
The NDA invites all students interested in participating in Bermuda’s National Marching Band to attend the NDAs ‘Drum Line Camp.’ Students undergo an intense and specialized training schedule with local and overseas instructors.
In addition, students learn customized drumming techniques, rudiments, back sticking, marching drills, dance formations, music reading, and marching styles for competition.
Registration will be held Monday February 9th, 2015 – Friday February 13th, 2015 from 4pm – 6pm at the Victor Scott Primary. February Drum Line camp will be held on Monday, February 16th – Saturday February 21st, 2015 at the Victor Scott Primary from 10am – 4pm. Cost is $150, Group Rate is $100 [Ten students]
