“We Must Cultivate A Culture Of Zero Tolerance”
Shadow Minister of Public Safety Walter Roban has expressed concern over “the recent spike in domestic violence and increase in cases of alleged inappropriate sexual conduct being brought before our courts.”
This follows after a string of cases before the Court, including the appearance of four men earlier this week on charges related to sexual allegations including unlawful carnal knowledge, sexual exploitation, luring, serious sexual assault and depriving a woman of her liberty.
Mr. Roban said, “The recent spike in domestic violence and increase in cases of alleged inappropriate sexual conduct being brought before our courts is alarming and of great concern to the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party. We must recognize this worrying trend and seek to do what each of us can to protect our women and children.
“We believe that Bermuda must cultivate a culture of zero tolerance for these despicable acts and end the culture of silence and cover up that has often seen society’s predators go uncharged, unconvicted and unpunished.
“As Bermudians we must be vigilant and protect our women and children through listening and supporting them when these incidents occur, speaking out when you are aware of these incidents occurring and through supporting both financially and by volunteering with helping organizations such as the Physical Abuse Centre, the Women’s Resource Centre and the Family Centre.
“We further support the creation of a Sexual Offenders Database so that offenders may be monitored and our loved ones protected,” added Mr. Roban.
Pandering much?
These things are nothing new, sexual assault on children and adults is as prevalent as ever with the only difference being victims are more empowered to come forward. Sadly the justice system lets them down with the revolving door of disgusting pigs that coming in and out of the courts.
When not in power I hear a lot of talk. When in power I see no action. That goes for BOTH parties! #ALLTALKNOACTION
Plp is upset?…..,I don’t see this as much of anything but rhetorical posticulation….Mr…Beans behaviour made it an acceptable occurence….this rudeness was initiated through his behaviour…….this is why ee must count ourselves lucky cows don’t fly…..for we would surely be bombarded with deficant!
Is there a proposed point in time at which we will start this culture of zero tolerance? I’m sorry for being cynical but really… saying and doing are quite different things!
I’m sorry…but Mr. Walter Roban,in order to garner any semblance of credibility, YOU need to practice what you preach and start to deal with the disgusting behaviour of your very own party LEADER towards women…until then you come across as nothing more than a hypocrite.
Interesting. Voicing concern over inappropriate behavior against females. Hmmmmmmmmmmm
Time to start a sex offender list. Name and shame!
Does this culture of zero tolerance extend to the Bermuda Regiment if it does then why didn’t the PLP support BAD’s request for a Royal Commission into both allegations of sexual abuse and allegations that sexual abuse was covered up?
Amen.
May I suggest Mr Roban that your party starts by cleaning it’s own house as an example?
The PLP are always there to express their concern…as long as nobody expects THEM to do anything.
So the PLP has zero tolerance for men abusing women. Does Bean know about this?
Words are not action for sure…but speaking up is better than perpetuating a culture of silence. Just standing up and voicing concern does help. Thank you Minister Roban.
Here we’re hearing from the Opposition the same ole 2 & 6 Where are their solutions ?
Is this a new viewpoint of Roban, I sure heard NOTHING about this when he was in a position to do something meaningful about it
