PLP To Host “Unity In The Community” Events

February 19, 2015

Constituencies 32, 33, 34, 35 and 36 of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party will be combining on a series of activities under the banner of “Unity in the Community.”

Constituency 35 MP Dennis Lister remarked,”Last year the western branches renewed our longstanding tradition of hosting a week of activities for the community. After the success of our 2014 Unity in the Community events, we have come together to create a series of activities focused on faith, giving back to our community and celebrating some of the heroes and history of our island,”

Constituency 36 MP Michael Scott said,”Constituency 36 is pleased to be a part of the PLP’s Unity in the Community events as it serves as a tangible demonstration of our shared commitment to maintaining a deep and tangible connection with the people of Sandys. It is through these connections that we are able to provide an even greater level of attentiveness and service in meeting the needs of our constituents,”

Constituency 34 MP Kim Wilson added, “A key component this year is our Educational Forum. Under the theme Progress Through the Ages, Sandys residents will share their first hand, eyewitness accounts of pivotal moments in Bermuda’s history. This is an opportunity for each of us to learn about our shared history, connect with our seniors and use the lessons of the past to build a better future,”

Constituency 33 MP Jamahl Simmons concluded,”I am grateful to the Western MPs and Branches for selecting the Packwood Home as the location for our community service activity. The Constituency 33 team is looking forward to working with our PLP colleagues and doing our part to beautify Packwood Home and make life even better for the residents,”

“The PLP’s Unity in the Community Activities begins on Sunday February 22nd with a Church service starting at 4pm at Agape Faith Kingdom Church, located at the Old Lagoon Park School in Dockyard,” a spokesperson said.

“On Wednesday, February 25 at 7pm the Somerset Cricket Club there will be an Educational Forum on “Progress Through the Ages.” This event will feature first hand accounts by Sandys residents of the events surrounding the Theatre Boycott and the BELCO riots. Light refreshments will be available for $5.00

“On Saturday, February 28 starting at 8am, the community is encouraged to come out and assist with the painting and beautification of the Packwood Home. Students seeking to complete community service hours are welcome.”
