Winds Cause Scattered Outages Across Island
BELCO crews have been out working to restore power as the inclement weather caused scattered power outages affecting approximately 850 customers across the island last night [Jan 31], with most customers restored in around two hours.
The Bermuda Weather Service had issued a Gale Warning for last night, and today’s prediction said “Winds northwesterly strong gusts to gale force, higher in exposed and elevated areas, decreasing moderate to strong by afternoon, then moderate by late afternoon.”
“When winds began to intensify on Saturday, we started to experience scattered outages, affecting small groups of customers Island-wide with crews working throughout to restore power,” a BELCO spokesperson explained.
“Wind-related outages, which in several cases also involved foliage coming into contact with overhead lines, affected the following numbers of customers in these areas shown in (xx) — the time that was required for BELCO crews to restore power is shown:

- 8:10pm and 10:20pm — Flatts (24) and (2); 2 hr, 22 min and 25 min
- 9:09pm — Somerset-Beacon Hill (20); 2 hr, 49 min
