ACE Appoints James Chiappa & Richard Voaden

March 18, 2015

ACE Group announced the appointment of James Chiappa and Richard Voaden as graduate trainees in its Bermuda-based insurance operations. The ACE Graduate Trainee Programme prepares students to transition into professional careers complete with business experience and insurance designations.

James Chiappa is working as graduate trainee in ACE Bermuda’s Property department. He graduated last year from the College of Charleston with a degree in Business Administration. This is not his first time working at ACE as he participated in the Summer Internship Program in 2010 which proved to be a valuable introduction to his underwriting career.

Richard Voaden is working as graduate trainee in ACE Bermuda’s political risk subsidiary Sovereign Risk Insurance. He too is no stranger to ACE having participated in the inaugural ACE Select Internship in 2013 – a dedicated insurance programme aimed at Bermudian university students who are interested in pursuing a career in Bermuda’s international insurance industry.

The two-year ACE Graduate Trainee Programme offers Bermudian graduates a professional insurance education where they can gain industry knowledge, technical underwriting skills, and practical work experience. It offers a blend of learning opportunities and participation in ACE’s overseas early career development programme.

Rees Fletcher, Division President, ACE Bermuda said, “It is certainly gratifying to see the results of ACE’s investment in student development as we welcome our newest graduate trainees James and Richard. They have both benefited from our insurance internship programmes to help set their career paths and now they join the growing number of trainees who have started their careers at ACE.”

To date ACE’s graduate programme has launched the insurance careers of the following Bermudians:

  • Jesse Kirkland joined ACE’s San Francisco office in 2014 as professional associate with the Inland Marine team.
  • Alexander Godfrey joined ACE Tempest Re as a catastrophe modeler graduate trainee in 2013.
  • Venetia Furbert joined ACE Bermuda in 2013 as graduate trainee with the Professional Lines department.
  • James Hillen joined ACE Bermuda’s actuarial department as a graduate trainee in 2013 and recently transferred to ACE’s Philadelphia office to pursue his actuarial career in the company’s Medical Risk department.
  • Christopher Parker and Nicholas Boorman both joined ACE in 2011 as graduate trainees and were appointed Assistant Underwriters in the Excess Liability and Property departments respectively following their successful completion of the programme in 2013.
  • Kimberly Lewis, ACE Bermuda’s first graduate trainee joined in 2010 and was appointed Assistant Underwriter in the Professional Lines department in 2012 on completion of the programme. She was promoted to Underwriter in April 2013.
