35 Yr Old Man Pleads Guilty: Assaulting Woman

March 23, 2015

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Mar 23], a 35-year-old man pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman and damaging items in the woman’s residence.

DeVaughn Raynor pleaded guilty to unlawfully assaulting a woman and causing her bodily harm; and to unlawfully damaging a stove, door, and window in the woman’s residence.

Facts read in by the Prosecutor to Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo indicated that Raynor had been living with the woman, and he proceeded to assault her, including head-butting her, which resulted in her being injured

The Court also heard that in the process of causing the property damage, he had cut his hand and consequently required expert medical attention.

Speaking on his own behalf, Mr Raynor admitted that after the altercation he knew that he had done wrong; had gone to the hospital for medical attention; and had then turned himself in to police.

The Magistrate ordered Social Inquiry and BARC reports, and set sentencing for May 2015. The Magistrate’s parting comments to Mr Raynor was that his being freed on bail was no guarantee that a custodial sentence was off the table.
