47 Yr Old Man Convicted Of Assaulting Woman
Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Mar 20], a 47-year-old man was remanded into custody after being convicted of assaulting a woman he had been in a relationship with.
Wayman Cariah was convicted of unlawfully assaulting a woman and causing her grievous bodily harm on 9th February 2015, with the Court hearing Mr Cariah had been in a relationship with the woman.
Prosecutor Garrett Byrne told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that Mr Cariah had gone to the woman’s house, and that subsequent to an initial visit, Mr Cariah had left and returned.
The Prosecutor said that on his return to the house, Mr Cariah accosted the woman, striking her twice in the face and causing her to fall down. Once down, he had kicked her while she was down. After he had stopped kicking her, Mr Cariah had said: “I just want to talk to you.”
The woman had suffered injuries to her face and nose due to the assault.
Mr Cariah’s defence counsel, Mr Leopold Mills, asked for a Social Inquiry Report, and suggested that a Victim Impact Statement might be provided.
Defence counsel asked for bail, however the Magistrate said that the sentence was likely to result in immediate incarceration and adjourned the completion of sentencing until May 2015, and remanded Mr Cariah into custody until then.
