BTA & BIU Event For Public Transport Workers
“The Bermuda Tourism Authority and the Bermuda Industrial Union are inviting unionized public transport workers to a presentation on Thursday [April 16] at the Ocean View Golf Course clubhouse, with the presentation to be on the results of a BTA visitor survey about Bermuda’s transport services.
A BTA spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] and the Bermuda Industrial Union [BIU] invite unionized public transport workers to a presentation on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Ocean View Golf Course clubhouse.
“The purpose of the presentation is to inform public transport workers on the results of a BTA survey which asked recent visitors to the island to rate their level of satisfaction with Bermuda’s transport services.
“The presentation will be offered twice on Thursday at 11:00am and 2:00pm so that as many transport workers as possible can attend without causing interruption to public transport services.
“This event is closed to media but survey findings will be released publicly after the information is shared directly with union membership. The survey results have already been shared with the Ministry of Tourism Development & Transport and BIU leadership.”
Now, that can possibly be a step in the right direction.
“Collaboration” is a must if we’re to see a semblance of progress when catering to our visitors.
Maybe they can use some of Hanbury’s $1,000 a day wage to help pay for overtime !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shared sacrifice: Taking from the highly qualified so the barely qualified can abuse sick leave and get more overtime.
Mockingay economics.
yeah just like the OBA’s M.P.s who don’t show up in parliament…..they highly absent often..
You never make any sense when you reply to me. I was going to take a swing at the oba but my three favorite V words are waiting for me… Vodka, v*g*na and de (de for mockingay) veed. After you read this look up what a salarie is.
I was in town today, it was really nice , lots of tourists , everyone seemed happy .
Mock: Ask some of the other MAWI patients?
There’s too much irony here to even know where to start! “The event is closed to media” — quelle surprise. Is there anything we don’t already know about how bad the public transport system is? I wonder if the findings will really be released. And the meetings are scheduled so that there’s no interruption to public transport services? When did they EVER worry about that? Too funny.
May I suggest that Mark Anderson be fully involved in any future training given to the BIU regarding how to treat our tourists. He is by far the best ambassador we have on public transport as substantiated by the frequent letters to the editor from tourists singing his praises.
To be fair, I have found most bus drivers to be very friendly and helpful to tourists.
The bigger issue is the disruption to service. Maybe double time will be agreed to the main tourist season.
I do agree though, Mark Anderson stands out and shines. He’s worth double time all the time!
Wasn’t 1.5 time was already agreed to?
No it was suggested by Chris and the workers rejected it claiming that if they take a cut then ALL Govt. workers have to take a cut.
It wasn’t put to a vote.
Lets see how many drivers show up and during their lunch break and they’re not getting paid. BTA has even made it easy for them by having the presentation in their back yard (just open the back gate).
I hate to feel as though I’m bashing bus drivers but I hope they take this as an opportunity to find how the public views them and maybe they can help to improve the service.
Oh wait, what the heck am i saying…lol. They know how they are viewed and how to improve the service, they just dont seemed to be bothered.
wondering if all dem sick bies will come out to play
only if they serving liquor….
SOUNDS like a bit of crawling going on
@mockingjay,
the bus drivers get $1000.00 per day if they work overtime.
The BTA is much more important than a Bus driver.
@mockingjay,
They get paid at $45.00 per hour and the Government cannot afford double time at $90.00 per hour for driving all the empty busses around.
Besides all the benefits lang vacations and 14 weeks sick leave, and a pension at the end of all of this.BLOOD -SUCKERS from the TAX PASYED.
@ rawonion,
They refuse overtime because they are not getting $90.00 an hour.
But happy with doing there regular time at $45.00 and hour,I know I and many others wish we could get $45.00 and hour for driving a bus.
NO WAY HOSAY ARE THEY GOING TO CHANGE ANYTHING,eventually it will be forced on them.
$13Million wage bill for regular time and how much are the ticket sales????
Never mind the benefits long vacations and 14weeks sick leave, besides having to spend millions on new busses.
