Dockyard Family Festival Set For April 18 & 19

April 15, 2015

In light of the cancellation of the 77th Agricultural Exhibition, WEDCO and a committee of five young social entrepreneurs have joined together to celebrate Bermuda families with the Royal Naval Dockyard Family Festival, a free community event set for April 18 and 19, complemented by the added attraction of the Bermuda Powerboat Association’s Dockyard Grand Prix event on the final day.

A spokesperson said, “Schools and prisons have been invited to participate, and add to the creative elements already in Dockyard, by showcasing artwork and crafts by students and inmates. Gombeys, local entertainers and dance groups have also been called upon for demonstrations, performances and competitions respectively.

“With the current economic and social climate in Bermuda, it is imperative that we, as community leaders, come forward and provide wholesome activities for families and our youth.”

“In that light, the Royal Naval Dockyard Family Festival will provide activities for all ages including fun castles, train rides, slides, laser tag, archery, glass bottom boat tours, pony rides, fun games, local vendors, DJ music and a showcase of local entertainment.

“Additional Ferries have been arranged for the festival to allow persons travelling from eastern and central areas to park in Hamilton and take a 20 minute ride to Dockyard on the water. Ferry service from Hamilton to Dockyard will start each morning at 9.00am and continue throughout the day until the last ferry leaves Dockyard each evening at 7.30pm.

“For those who drive, due to renovations and construction in preperation for the Americas Cup, all parking for the festival will be at Malabar Field. The cost for parking is $8.00 and a dedicated shuttle will be available to transport you and your family to and from venue for the duration of the event.”
