Explore An[Other] World At Masterworks
Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art invites the community to engage with An[Other] World through a rich programme of public events, artist conversations, family activities, reading lists and free, all-ages workshops.
A spokesperson said, “An[Other] World is a group exhibition, co-curated by Jasmine Lee and Daisy Gould, on view now through March 20, 2027, in the Butterfield Gallery.
“An[Other] World brings works from the Masterworks Permanent Collection into dialogue with contemporary and newly commissioned works, while exploring how art shapes the ways we understand Bermuda’s history, preserve cultural memory and see ourselves and one another. The exhibition encourages visitors to consider the many perspectives that contribute to Bermuda’s cultural identity. Its accompanying public programme extends these ideas beyond the gallery, creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect with art, literature, the environment and each other.”
“Art offers something meaningful to everyone, but we don’t all connect with it in the same way,” shares Masterworks Education and Engagement Director, Kimberley Fisher. “This public programme creates diverse entry points, from storytelling and reading to hands-on making and guided looking. We’re inviting people of all ages to find their own connections, build confidence in interpreting art, and discover how it can enrich their lives.”
Curated Conversations and Artist Talks
A spokesperson added, “The programme continues on Tuesday, October 13, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., with Curated Conversations with co-curators Jasmine Lee and Daisy Gould. As part of BTA’s Art Month, this special edition of the Museum’s lecture series will offer insight into the ideas, choices and conversations that shaped the exhibition.
“The Museum will also host Artist Talks on Thursday, October 29, and Thursday, November 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. These evenings bring four contemporary artists featured in the exhibition into conversation about their practices, creative processes and the relationships between their work and pieces from the Masterworks Collection.
Adult Book Club and Youth Story Time at the Museum
“Literature is another important part of the An[Other] World programme. Curated by Kristin White, owner of Long Story Short and an award-winning Bermudian blogger and entrepreneur, the exhibition’s reading lists provide material for the exhibition’s Reading Nook, Story Time at the Museum and the An[Other] World Book Club.”
“Long Story Short is so excited and proud to partner with Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art on this project,” shares White. “The An[Other] World Book Club will give residents the chance to further explore the global themes of the art exhibit through fiction and non-fiction books, and we’ll provide local videos and text excerpts to add a Bermuda perspective to the conversation.”
Book Club sessions take place on:
- Wednesday, November 18, 2026
- Wednesday, January 27, 2027
- Wednesday, March 17, 2027
A spokesperson added, “Participants are welcome to attend a single session or join all three. Book Club reading lists can be found on the Masterworks website.
“Younger readers and their grown-ups are also invited to experience Story Time at the Museum, presented in partnership with the Youth Library. Held in the gallery, these sessions bring books and artworks together to spark curiosity, encourage questions and introduce new ways of seeing. Families can settle in for a shared story before exploring the exhibition together.”
Kieron Hall, Youth Collection Librarian, shares, “The Florenz Webbe Maxwell Youth Library is excited to connect with Masterworks to share stories with Bermuda’s young artists. We look forward to promoting not only inspirational books we and Masterworks have in our collections, but also the fun and educational programming we offer that gives children opportunities to express themselves creatively.”
A spokesperson added, “Upcoming Story Time dates are Saturday, November 7, and Saturday, December 5, 2026. The October session took place on October 3 with attendance at full capacity. Admission is free for these events.
“The Museum’s youth reading lists, available on the Masterworks website, feature books for four age groups: 0–4, 5–8, 9–13 and 14–17. Selected to explore identity and inclusion while celebrating heritage, art and nature, the lists offer families and young people opportunities to continue these conversations within and beyond the walls of the gallery.
Free, All-Ages Workshops
“Extending the exhibition’s themes into practical, hands-on experiences, Masterworks is also offering free workshops for all ages. These activities invite the community to learn new skills, exchange knowledge and discover creative connections between art and the world around us.
“The first workshop, Mural Restoration with Jennifer Stobo Keats, took place on Saturday, October 10, with support from Pembroke Paint and BTA for Art Month. The next workshop, Planting Onions with the AgraLiving Institute, will take place on Saturday, November 14, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Bringing participants together around a shared activity, the workshop offers an opportunity to explore the relationship between creativity, cultivation and the natural environment.
“All public programme events and workshops are listed on the Masterworks website, where visitors can find further details and register.”
Through this varied programme, Masterworks hopes to make An[Other] World more than an exhibition to view. “Through this exhibition and its public programme, we want to meet people where they are. We recognise that not everyone feels the gallery is a space for them, so we’re introducing other venues and spaces, from studios and gardens to the gallery itself in new ways, where people can participate, listen, read, make and reflect, and still think alongside the ideas at the heart of An[Other] World.” shares Jasmine Lee, co-curator, Masterworks.
A spokesperson added, “By bringing different generations, disciplines and perspectives into conversation, the Museum continues to create space for the many stories that make up Bermuda’s shared cultural experience.”
