Video: Southampton Brush Fire Extinguished

[Updated] The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a brush fire tonight [June 29] in Southampton at approximately 8.00pm with multiple appliances attending the scene near Pompano Beach Road.

At least three fire appliances and a private water truck could be seen at the location with fire personnel wearing breathing apparatus wetting down the area. Heavy excavation machinery was also being used to assist in turning over the debris so that fire service personnel could access deeper into the pile. Details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 11.51pm: Fire Service spokesperson, Sergeant Jamal Albuoy, reported “At approximately 7:53 pm on Monday, June 29, 2015, BFRS responded to a report of a confirmed Brush Fire in the Port Royal Golf Course area.

“BFRS responded to the incident with appliances from our Hamilton Station and our Port Royal Station. A total of three appliances and 8 personnel responded to the incident. On our arrival, an area of horticultural waste measuring approximately 50 feet by 100 feet was involved with fire.

“Firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus manned with a fire hoseline extinguished the blaze. In addition, we would like to publicly thank Mr. Darren DeSilva of Water Now Trucking Service who was in area and offered us a supply of water to assist with incident. It is kind acts like this that truly make us “our brother’s keeper”. Mr. DeSilva, your kind gesture is applauded.

“Fire crews are currently securing the scene by wetting down surrounding areas”.
