81% Feel Hosting AC Will Have Positive Impact
A June 2015 public opinion poll by Global Research and Strategy Group Ltd. has found that the majority of Bermuda residents see positive benefits associated with the America’s Cup Race coming to Bermuda.
“Eighty-one percent of respondents believed that hosting the America’s Cup will have a positive impact on tourism, jobs and Bermuda’s economy. This figure represents a nine percent increase over March 2015,” the company said. “Positive impacts were perceived by male and female residents of all ages.”

Global Research and Strategy Group CEO, Nosheen Syed: “It is encouraging that so many residents are positive about the America’s Cup. When consumers feel optimistic about factors that can positively influence the economy it will have the added benefit of building overall consumer confidence.
“With Oracle Team USA and the ACEA [America’s Cup Event Authority] operations set up in Bermuda, Artemis Racing’s announced plans for a permanent base and Ben Ainslie Racing occasionally on Island, residents are clearly either experiencing or hearing about the positive economic impacts. It will be interesting to see if these figures rise in our next polls especially with the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Bermuda taking place in October 2015.”
Global Research said they “utilised Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing [CATI] to interview 403 registered voters. All interviews took place between June 5 – June 11 2015. The results were weighted to be representative of Bermuda’s population using the following criteria: age, race, gender. The margin of error for the study is +/- 5% at the 95% confidence level.”
Belief and reality are two different things
Many bermudians are still hunting for jobs island wide despite all the glamourous statements of employment opportunities for all
Many will see that sports tourism is on the rise throughout the world. For all the naysayers, remember, you have to spend money to make money.
The naysayers are the stalwart PLP supporters who feel that all of the money invested should have been given away to….them.
Is ‘benefiting a select few’ considered a ‘positive impact’?
Who were the “select few” who got to build a swimming pool costing $25m?
How about the “select few” who got to returf a golf course for $24.5m?
Because I don’t recall that money being shared around.
74% of people see the benefit. You don’t.
If by “select few” you mean those of us that get up off our fat, lazy a**es and take advantage of this opportunity then yes, I agree with you. There are people every day in the news that are starting businesses now with eyes on the AC. Congrats to them! The rest of you, enjoy complaining from the comforts of the couch you sit on all day.
It has to be said, sorry, but the different stats between black and white are interesting. Overall I am delighted that the AC is here, there is a sense of excitement ..
In other news, 19% of bermudians are f***in idiots
The public coffers will feel the impact of AC……and the deficit will be bridged on the backs of those who can least afford it…. the oligarchy, the merchant class…the CoC members will do well….
Rhonda, writing and saying stupid things comes easy to you doesn’t it????
