Two Films To Feature At Weekend Film Series

July 14, 2015

An entertaining documentary about the Champagne region of France and a biopic about Beach Boys’ mercurial singer, songwriter, and leader Brian Wilson will screen at the Weekend Film Series, sponsored by Gosling’s, on Sunday, July 19.

Screening at 3.00pm will be A Year in Champagne, featuring wine importer Martine Saunier as the viewers’ guide as they get a rare glimpse behind the scenes into the Champagne region through six houses.

They range from small independent makers, like Champagne Saint-Chamant – where each and every bottle is still turned by hand in the cellars – to the illustrious houses of Gosset and Bollinger, which have been instrumental in shaping the image of Champagne around the world.

Trailer for A Year In Champagne:

As the season progresses, we see the winemaking process, and hear from the vintners about their experiences, in this celebration of the world’s most popular sparkling wine.

The film screens in French, with English subtitles.

Screening at 5.15pm will be Love and Mercy, starring John Cusack, Paul Dano, Elizabeth Banks, and Paul Giamatti in a warm portrait of Brian Wilson.

Trailer for Love and Mercy:

“Set against the era-defining catalogue of Wilson’s music, the film intimately examines the personal voyage of the icon whose success came at extraordinary personal cost.

“Dano and Cusack play the younger and older iterations of Wilson in this tribute to one of popular music’s most prolific and influential artists. The film chronicles the younger Wilson’s emergence as an artist, his struggles with mental illness – and his ultimate salvation.

“The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, earning a standing ovation. The Chicago Tribune calls Love and Mercy “the best musical biopic in decades.”

Tickets for the Weekend Film Series are available at Oceans Gift Shop at BUEI or by calling 294-0204.
