Bermuda’s Top 50 Twitter List For July 2015

Nasty comments were the hot topic on Social Media in July.

The latest incident was involving Jillionaire and his impolite remarks about Bermuda on Twitter, Instagram and Bermuda. There were easily more than 1,000 responses to what he posted, almost all of it aimed right back at him.

His statements were reposted dozens of times by other which then started their own comment streams.

Jillionaire then did the one of the biggest public relations blunders you can do in a crisis situation when he took down what he posted, which then sparked a further outcry. Then people started commenting on other posts he made, further spreading the damage.

On to more positive news, the Bermuda Tourism Authority has changed its name on both its Twitter and Instagram accounts. They have dropped the @GoToBermuda and have claimed @Bermuda for the brand.

Glenn Jones, director of Public and Stakeholder Relations, told Bernews, “We are very excited to officially change our Twitter account to @Bermuda. The Bermuda Tourism Authority collaborated with Twitter to secure the new name over the past year because in 2011 when the Department of Tourism joined Twitter the @Bermuda account was already claimed.

“This new change will make it simpler for the digital world to search and discover the news shared about the Island. The entire marketing team is thrilled to move forward with @Bermuda as our official home on Twitter, in line with a similar account name change on Instagram [also @Bermuda].”

For the Bermuda Top 50 Twitter List, Nothing To Do In Bermuda reclaimed a spot on the rankings and world champion Xterra triathlete Flora Duffy dropped down two notches to 52.

The top five remain the same with Fox Commentator and former WWE champion John Layfield at number one followed by Collie Buddz, Dudley Freedom, Ledrew Fox and Devaune Ratteray.
