‘Throw Mud, Mislead, Misinform, Incite To Divide’

August 19, 2015

“Mr. Furbert’s call for a Commission of Inquiry into hearsay allegations in a case currently before the courts is just one more example of the Opposition’s politics-before-all approach to the country’s business: Grab onto anything, throw mud at everything, mislead, misinform and incite to divide,” the OBA said today.

Last week, the Opposition said they plan to table legislation to establish a “Commission of Inquiry to conduct a special investigation into the serious allegations of extortion and bribery made against Ministers of the government.”

Earlier today, Shadow Economic Development Minister Wayne Furbert said, “The OBA’s refusal to participate in a bipartisan effort to root out possible corruption within the Government is baffling and disturbing to every Bermudian that supports an open and transparent government.”

In response, an OBA spokesperson said, “Nothing has changed on this matter from what the Premier said Monday.

“Mr. Furbert’s call for a Commission of Inquiry into hearsay allegations in a case currently before the courts is just one more example of the Opposition’s politics-before-all approach to the country’s business: Grab onto anything, throw mud at everything, mislead, misinform and incite to divide ― anything to undermine the work of a government, whose progress they see as harmful to their political prospects.

“It’s a classic example of self-interest before national interest.

“Perhaps nothing displays the cynicism and insincerity of the Opposition’s approach to its responsibilities more than Mr. Furbert’s empty call ‘to cast aside party lines’. That doesn’t quite reconcile with his Leader’s first order of business, which is to ‘take out’ the duly elected Government of Bermuda.

“The Government will continue to move forward, turning around the economic mess it inherited from the PLP Government and keeping the public informed every step of the way. We’re making progress despite the worst efforts of the Opposition leadership to see that that doesn’t happen.”

  1. TRUTH says:

An Inquiry would remove all doubt Mr. Premier. There are too many unanswered questions. It would be good to have the full story.

I do not understand the fear of an Inquiry, it is an open process of transparency. This is a good opportunity to demonstrate that the OBA is a party of Transparency and Honesty.

This Inquiry would validate that the government does not have any mis-steps. It would also help to rebuild the trust in the government. I believe from a political stand point for the good of the party, it would be best to have an Inquiry to remove or doubt, unless there is something to hide.

    • hmmm says:

Hearsay…the PLP know full well that no right minded person would call an Inquiry on hearsay, they would be laughed out of the Governers office.

Can’t believe anyone would fall for their false calls !

    • Ringmaster says:

So a Commission of Inquiry is formed. They will need evidence in the form of emails or something in writing, or a valid recording, from the 3 accused asking for money or favors. What evidence is there to review? No one has produced any. Only allegations from a person who is being investigated for $18m of missing funds paid into his personal account. A Commission will cost many tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, dollars which the PLP keep reminding us would be wasted. In any case without evidence no Commission would be formed. Without evidence there is no charge to answer. How do you prove you didn’t ask for a bribe when you didn’t? All these calls that an Inquiry would clear the air is nonsense.

    • Ed says:

The same OBA didn’t want to have an INQUIRY on Jetgate and look what happened after Mr.Thad Hollis did his investigation.

Premier Craig Cannonier hands in his resignation!!

      • Hoolieh says:

Not public funds. Why can’t you understand this issue?

Funds for a campaign to do what they want with it!

It’s an internal issue for the OBA.

Important focus should be where all the public funds under the PLP went?

        SM

    • if that is the case the opposition wouldn’t mind an inquiry into their reign of We had to deceive you and This to shall pass,

      • Onion Juice says:

You had your chance to have an inquiry and you blew it, now sit back and watch the show.

        • Zevon says:

Oh, we’re watching. We are watching.

        • Christopher Notorius says:

Nothing to see here. It’s all plp manufactured bs and you know it. Peoples complainers at it again. They are so pathetic they can’t even find a Bermudian to speak for them. Just a man who sells fake tickets to God. People are stupid enough to fall for it.

          • Onion Juice says:

Dr. Gordon wasn’t a Bermudian too but look at the contribution he made ,so that spin didn’t work either, try again.
            LMFAO

        • Hmmm says:

This is what the PLP wanted, ask for something that they know would not happen , govenor would throw it out as tit is hearsay, so they knew OBA would not waste time ann money at this juncture.

It is manipulation of the peoples minds, making them think the OBA have something ti hide. The PLP keep playing these mind games. It is starting to backfire badly as the people are seeing through them and sick of being manipulated.

    • Jeremy Deacon says:

There are a lot of unanswered questions going back many years – why not have a comnmission of inquiry going back 20 years?

      • Maddog says:

No pop lets go back 60 year.. And you will see some stuff.. When blacks were denied everything..couldn’t get a job,go to the theater, used the same bathroom as white people, couldn’t go to certain school as whites..and the list goes on and on..so don’t play with history fool!!!

  2. Options says:

In all honestly this is all getting quite boring now.

How about everyone let the judiciary do its duty, the police investigations continue and you two political parties do what you’re elected to do. And this nonsense is not what people vote for.

Let the chips fall where they may as the truth always comes out in the end.

  3. Vulcan Trash Cleaner says:

    beam the plp up scotty!

  4. Navin Johnson says:

This is all a diversion…..certain PLP ministers and former ministers know the situation is tightening so divert, divert ,divert

  5. Mr. Michael Dunkley is to darn afraid of a real inquiry being done, do to the fact there will be more thing’s coming to light then he can handle, It is time for YOU (Mr. Michael Dunkley) to do the right thing, STEP THE HELL DOWN, OR be forced out of office, The U.B.P / O.B.A made some serious promise when in the opposition, and called for the heads of may of the former P.L.P leaders in their time in office, and Mr. Dunkley most times you were the leader of the pack.

So it is very easy to say that you sounded great and politically correct while in the position of the opposition, and as the O.B.A came into power we really felt change in the air and expected great changes to benefit all of the Bermudian voters, and to be fair the O.B.A was looking some what good and seemingly even seemed as if they had some of the voting public’s best interest at heart, but since you took over the helm of being the Premier I must say you have really made your mark.

You will go down on the book’s of Bermuda’s political history as being one of the worse Premiers this country has ever seen, You talked a lot about Dr. Ewart Brown and his style of leadership, but even with all the wealth that you have acquired personally before taking office in your private life and family inheritance that you did not have to really work for, you don’t have what it takes to even walk the same path as Dr. Ewart Brown and I for one think you are far worse then he could ever be.

For all those who think this is a attack against Mr. Michael Dunkley let me make this abundantly clear, Mr. Dunkley as a representative of his constituency was the best that we had a did a great job and was a excellent representative, but as he has now come to were he is, that person we knew no longer exist, or just maybe the dislike of the political person he has become, has always been there, and the ones that were fooled is those who believed in a individual that was a bright light on a white horse, and has become a dark tainted individual that has allowed his position to overcome his judgement and his former character as a politician.

Sorry but I don’t trust or believe in anything that comes from the mouth of our Premier and urge his colleagues to do the right thing and time to change the commander and chief, but then again who am I fooling they are all the same, so let the people stand up and recall this government and over rule the vote of both political parties, it is more of us then them, and even if there is not laws in place to support this motion, let us rise up and change law by shutting this country down immediately and bring it to it’s right senses.

This government is selling it’s soul to the devil and trying to send the majority of us to hell in a hand basket, but the trap you have set for us, will soon over take you and your foot shall be taken by your own trap.

    • Mike says:

The real problem in Bermuda, is that I struggle to find anyone who trusts anybody that is even remotely connected with politics.

Whether OBA, PLP, UBP, XYZ or whoever.

      • Build a Better Bermuda says:

I trust none of them, but I believe the OBA can do a better job, because they have been the only ones to actual play it as staraight as any politicians can when it come to the state of government and have shown to have the higher capacity for understanding just how our economy runs. I expect curruption in government, I just won’t accept it draining our tax dollars. Say what you want about the UBP, but at least their friends and family plan was on a budget, and the OBA is proving that they are willing to do what needs to be done to get things back under control… but the PLP, well their friends and family nearly sunk the island.

    • Paz says:

There is not one shred of substance to Santucci’s diatribe. When trying to discredit someone, it is important to provide at least one fact.

      • Regina says:

The guy is a raving lunatic. Probably off his meds.

    • It's about time! says:

It’s a good thing that NOBODY gives a rats A** about what you think……..

    • skytrain says:

What a poorly written and confused few paragraphs. It’s a 230 word run on sentence with 45 basic words misspelled.
There might be a message twisted into it, but I couldn’t see past the poor grammar

    • pure political c**p from a blind and deaf thing

    • Northshore says:

Blah BA ba blah blah ba ba bbbbbbbbaaaaaa blah blah . Go to another PLP,BIU ,PC meeting and write some more BS!!!!

    • TonyC says:

Duane. Learn how to spell, then come back to the big boy’s table and try again.

    • Navin Johnson says:

Hopefully no one will ever replace Brown as the worst Premier in the history of Bermuda……the man who almost took the entire island down…the man who put Bermuda in a situation that we may never recover from…..

    • betty trump says:

NO! The oba are doing a fantastic job at running the island! i have had a change of heart. lets support Mr. Dunkley. the economy is turning. the plp screwed us. lets get with the times and support OBA!

    • JCS says:

Thing’s? Were he is? You need to go back to school Mr. Santucci.

  6. Just a matter of time says:

Yet another deflection…. Didn’t we get results and evidence after digging deeper with Jetgate through emails and the like? Why can’t we do the same here? The problem is that the OBA have already set a negative precedent which include a couple of the same players in this matter. Coincidence much? All the more reason to investigate. We had a former Premier resign for goodness sakes! And the same person is implicated again! Instead all we get is pushback and deflection. And it says a lot. it’s a stall until AC35 etc gets underway and all is forgotten before the next election…they hope.

  7. Coffee says:

Sounds like the mode of operation of the UBP/BDA /OBA from ’98-’12 . Only thing the PLP is guilty of is boldly remaining PLP !

    • Hmmm says:

Blind deaf and dumb. I feel sorry for you if you truly believe your words.

    • Sickofantz says:

Oh and building up a huge debt!

    • Northshore says:

put some milk in your coffee please !!

      • Coffee says:

It’s amazing , but I’m not surprised at the short memory , selective memory of the UBP,BDA,OBA diehards . You must acknowledge that in order to gain power , the UBP was divided , you got very efficient at mudslinging ,misleading ,misinforming and ultimately dividing amongst yourselves never mind the public . But the groundwork was laid and that type of nasty behavior is now being foisted upon the innocent peoples of Bermuda
This is a government who has already consumed their mother , the UBP , what chance do we stand . Why did Cannonier resign , where is Thad Hollis ? Simple questions never answered ?

As a footnote , I must say that it was entertaining standing on the sideline watching how the CANNABILIZATION of a party is done . Now that was poetry in motion !

    • Zevon says:

The People’s Campaign think they are above the law. Laws shouldn’t apply to them like they apply to everyone else. They can say anything they want, try to ruin any reputation they want, accuse anyone of anything. That’s what they really think. The law shouldn’t apply to them. They’re ‘special’, not like the rest of us. They’re elite, special, above the law.

    • Build a Better Bermuda says:

WOW…. I mean… well just wow. Nobody should be this blind in faith. Bet if the PLP told you they could create world peace and make everybody billionaires, you would believe them. You are so willing to believe that the OBA are corrupt, foreigner loving traitors to Bermuda and that the PLP are a righteous party solely dedicated to bettering all Bermudians… why is that… because the PLP tell you so… because the OBA has a diverse racial and social make up and seeks to appeal to logical understanding about where we are, while the PLP only really targets the black population and does so with emotive propaganda? In all my years on this, you have never really brought anything to the debate, at least nothing that you haven’t regurgitated from the PLP PR machine, except for your belief that society should just be torn down for your own ideological benefit, because you lack the strength to release yourself from the shackles of the past and truly raise yourself up.

“We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental” and (I would add at this point) emotional “slavery because whilst others might free the body, none but ourselves can free the mind. Mind is your only ruler, sovereign. The man who is not able to develop and use his mind is bound to be the slave of the other man who uses his mind….” Marcus Garvey, Nova Scotia, October 1937.

  8. Triangle Drifter says:

The PLP wants an enquiry? Fine. The PLP can put up the hundreds of thousands that the lawyers are going to charge in advance. A field day for them. If the OBA is found to be clean, the PLP loses what the enquiry costs. If the OBA is found guilty, they pay costs.

My bet is that you won’t get a penny out of the PLP.

  9. Jeremy Deacon says:

    the OBA strikes back!

  10. Jurist says:

I am going to The Playboy Mansion!

  11. I and I says:

I for one can not stand for a minute this system of colonialism. It easy for any side of the political system to be corrupt and hide behind laws rules and policies. What do you have to hide OBA? What did you have to hide PLP? Cut the crap people for the PEOPLE!! How about commissions of inquiries into both parties to clean up the system once and for ALL!! One Nation Under A Groove!!!!!!

    • hmmm says:

Hearsay is not ever going to be taken up by the Governor to engage in a commission of Inquiry. The PLP know this and are using it to manipulate peoples minds.

      It’s disgusting.

  12. I and I says:

I for one can not stand for a minute this system of colonialism. It easy for any side of the political system to be corrupt and hide behind laws rules and policies. What do you have to hide OBA? 13. 21st Century says:

    Hearsay. Heresy

  14. 32n64w says:

If Commissions of Inquiry are to be commenced based upon the PLP’s standards, then all anyone needs do is state something wildly caustic, inflammatory, unbelievable, factually baseless and demand an investigation regardless if common sense says otherwise.

With this standard in mind, one need only publicly state that PLP MPs can only physically survive each day if they consume fresh baby placentas. Given our declining birth rates, this will of course require the importation of bloody fetuses in order to ensure the combined oppositions’ survival. Should anyone disagree with their demands they will be branded as anti-free speech and anti-democratic.

Sadly this admittedly sick joke is anything but. The PLP have betrayed their membership with repeated and hollow calls for action based solely at advancing their political agenda using disinformation and lies for their personal political self preservation.

  15. unus sed leo says:

I am afraid I am going to have to put my foot down…n’tell all you children …stop what your doing and listen up….he said she said he said crap has to stop. What is going on has to stop…can you stop? You need to stop all this nonsense…it is an embarrassment….When we vote we vote for the best of us….not the bottom of the barrel…..those who are in are voted in….those who are out are voted out….we have the most disruptive beligerant shadow ministry in the written history of man….and as a result really exhibit no other function…be honest …is this the case….?a public servant that does not serve is of no use….you can leave go or serve….but if all your going to do is disrupt then step aside and be helpful…be quiet.

The story is that the out of Power Party ie PLP/BIU are missing their FIRST CLASS AND LOTS OF TRAVEL on the TAX PAYER.
IT is very difficult to come down from living HIGH on the TAX PAYERS dime, and OH DID THEY LIVE HIGH.
But all good things must come to an end, would not want to be employed by Goverment at this time or have a Goverment contract to do work for the Goverment as both will be comming to an END.
And i hope you all noticed that he Greek Goverment had to sell it,s fourteen airports to a Pr ivate Company.

  18. Betty Boop says:

There is no evidence of this at all, just has the OBA has said many many times, flip flop will now blame the Governor. LOL
