“With Bermuda’s geography and well-documented connectivity to the rest of the world, this session will be relevant to every company wanting to implement meaningful Information Security Management Systems,” Fifth Step said.
“In particular, it will focus on the obligations of every Board member and senior executive in understanding the key elements of information security and ensuring that their company establishes effective frameworks that can stand-up to audit scrutiny.”
“We will be taking a look at why the headlines associated with ‘cyber’ have become such a hot topic, and why Boards around the world, are having to sit up and take notice like never before,” says Mr Wray.
“Information security must be viewed, first and foremost, through the lens of overall business strategy and sound corporate governance. It is not always easy for IT and other senior executives to ascertain where the real risks lie and therefore to fully understand the true impacts,” says Mr Wray.
“A data breach can go far beyond just the initial value of what is stolen and might end up including; regulatory fines, corporate negligence, and the often incalculable cost of damage to the company’s reputation,” he says.
In this seminar Mr Wray will be discussing how a Chief Information Security Officer [CISO], CIO, CTO, or Head of IT can work with the Board to address their company’s exposure, understand their obligations and deliver effective Information Security.
Stephen Bull, Managing Director of Fifth Step Bermuda, echoes Mr. Wray’s comments: “Boards and senior management can no longer ignore, and pass on to their most senior executives, the job of securing sensitive customer data and corporate information.
“Responsibility needs to be a Board directive that sits at the heart of the organization, discussed regularly at Board meetings, and is in lock step with all other business and operational initiatives that are being discussed.
“Local companies and Bermuda-based international institutions share the same challenges on this front,” says Mr Bull.
“Fifth Step works with its clients to understand their business environments and provides pragmatic guidance in assessing and implementing a robust Information Security Strategy,” the company said.
“To help companies in Bermuda of all shapes and sizes get started, Fifth Step has devised a free Cyber Security Health Check that will be made available at the session.
“In Bermuda, Fifth Step partners with Independent Consulting Solutions [ICS], one of the oldest established IT consultancies on the island. ICS provides its clients with hardware/software procurement, on-site professional services, as well as being an HP Warranty Service Centre and a partner of Microsoft and Check Point.
“The formal Fifth Step Bermuda partnership was announced in July 2013.
