Precious Gems Camp Completion Ceremony
Teen Services recently held a completion ceremony for the young ladies enrolled in the Precious Gems summer camp, and Junior Minister of Community, Culture and Sports Nandi Outerbridge attended the ceremony and commended the 12 students for completing the programme.
Mrs. Outerbridge said, “As young ladies you have the power to be anything that you want to be. But you must first believe that you can! What I have learned is that you have to be yourself, love yourself and believe in yourself.”
“You know everyone can tell you who they think you should be but only you know who you are! And you can make your dreams come true. But first it starts with believing in yourself no matter what others say or do!
“Congratulations, I know you will take what you’ve learned and put it into practice. Use all that you have learned to enhance the unique qualities that make you special.”
The Precious Gems program was launched in August 2012. The Teen Services camp aims to inspire and empower young girls between the ages of 11 to 14 to recognize and understand their inner value, build self-confidence and improve self-esteem; as well as develop leadership skills. The young ladies also took part in art therapy to encourage their expression in creative manner.
The art therapy was facilitated by Ms. Richelle Richards, an art teacher, who has a keen interest in utilizing art therapy, to help young people cope with trauma. The young ladies created masks, which depicted how they saw themselves in the world.
Congrats girls, but be careful who you choose as a role model.
