BFRS Respond To Fire At Restaurant In Hamilton
The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fire at the Coconut Rock Restaurant on Reid Street this morning [Oct 29], and the BFRS said that while there were no injuries, there was minor smoke damage and the restaurant will be closed for business today.
The BFRS said, “The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to an alarm indicating fire located on #20 Reid St, Hamilton in the Williams House Building this morning at approximately 6:50am.”
Press Officer for the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service Sergeant Russann Francis said, “We responded to a fire at the Coconut Rock Restaurant on notification from an alarm management company. On our arrival there was thick smoke seen emitting from the rear doorway of the restaurant.
“Initially, two firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus made entry through the front of the restaurant to locate the source of the smoke. It was discovered that the fire had been extinguished by the sprinkler system.
“With this discovery, we then initiated salvage by removing the water, which had been released by the fire alarm system. As at time of this press statement, crews are still on scene assisting with salvage and retention of the restaurant’s property.
“We responded to this incident with four vehicles and ten personnel and can confirm there were no injuries at this incident. There was minor fire damage and the fire is currently under investigation.
“As a result of this unfortunate incident, the restaurant will be closed for business today.”
