Condé Nast Traveler: Bermuda Fifth-Best Island

November 2, 2015

Bermuda has been voted as one of the world’s best island destinations, ranking at number five in the island category of the annual Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards, which ranks the best travel opportunities in the world across a number of categories.

Bermuda’s fifth place ranking came with an overall rating score of 84.245, making it the top-ranked island in the Atlantic. The top island in the world was deemed to be the Philippine island of Palawan, with a rating of 85.937.

Rounding out the top five islands were French Polynesia’s Bora Bora [84.756] and Moorea [84.656] in second and third respectively, and New Zealand’s Waiheke Island [84.447] in fourth.

The Cond Naste awards article says of Bermuda, “Though this small island sits in the North Atlantic, its climate is decidedly subtropical.

“A British Overseas Territory, Bermuda is a melting pot of British, American, and Caribbean cultures, and offers tons of things to do: snorkeling near pink-sand beaches, golfing, shopping, museum hopping, and more.

“Bermuda is riddled with watery underground caverns, its most famous being the Crystal and Fantasy Caves. Tours take you on a walkway over eerily clear water, with pale stalactites hanging overhead. One of the site’s first visitors? Mark Twain.

“There are direct flights to Bermuda from eight cities on the East Coast, including New York, Atlanta, and Miami [2 to 3 hours].”

The Readers’ Choice Awards are announced in the November issue of Condé Nast Traveler, on newsstands and online now.
