Sunday December 27th: “Good News” Spotlight
News that Chef Michiko Campbell held his free turkey dinner event, 4-year-old Yu’udai Trott-Hayward donated his toys to children in need, the Sunshine League and students from Bermuda High School completed a charity garden project, and Clearwater Middle School performed a “mini Christmas concert” for the staff and guests of the Elbow Beach Hotel were all some of the positive news stories from the past week.
Other good news stories included the Association for Psychological Science naming Dr. Katie Davis to their distinguished ‘Rising Star’ list, MP Zane DeSilva donating to the Southampton Rangers, the Mixed Majors Bowling League and Perfect Storm Bowling League donating $1,500 to the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, and the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation thanking Somersfield Academy student Jackie Costello for her mental illness awareness campaign.
Additional good news stories included six athletes being offered athletic scholarship packages to Wilberforce University, Bermuda HealthCare Services announcing sponsorships totaling $12,000 for three local athletes, ‘Stringz Unlimited’ launching on the island, and the Bermuda Irish Association donating $1,600 to the Salvation Army.
We also posted various community photo galleries, including coverage of the island’s array of Christmas lights and decorations, a Portuguese Presepio Nativity Scene, Chef Michiko Campbell’s free turkey dinner event, holiday festivities in Dockyard, and Bermuda HealthCare Services’ turkey giveaway.
