Withdrawal Of Commission Of Inquiry Motion
MP Wayne Furbert withdrew the motion calling for a Commission of Inquiry in the House of Assembly on Friday [Dec 11] asking “what would we achieve by tearing ourselves apart” and “would we have advanced the peace, prosperity and welfare of these Islands?”
Following the allegations made in the MacLean affidavit, the Opposition had said they would table legislation to “establish a Commission of Inquiry to conduct a special investigation into the serious allegations of extortion and bribery made against Ministers of the Government.”
However Mr Furbert withdrew that saying he was “sick and tired of accusations and innuendoes without any proof” and added “I am not going to be part of that.”
“Let the police do its job, and if they do not, then the guilt is on their hands and not ours,” added Mr Furbert.
In withdrawing the Motion, Mr Furbert said, “Since laying the motion I have had discussions with members of the PLP and individuals in the community regarding it. Mr. Speaker the question on the motion comes down to, is the motion lawful, or is it expedient?
“Yes Mr. Speaker we could debate this motion and yes it will turn out to be one of the nastiest debates we would have ever had in this house, with fingers being pointed in all directions.
“At the end of the day, what would we have achieved? What would that accomplish? What would we achieve by tearing ourselves apart? Would we have advanced the peace, prosperity and welfare of these Islands. My answer is no, and each one of us must admit the same.
“Mr. Speaker to be honest I am sick and tired of accusations and innuendoes without any proof, well today I am not going to be part of that. Let the police do its job, and if they do not, then the guilt is on their hands and not ours.
“To this end Mr. Speaker, I withdraw the motion that was given by me on November 27th 2015.”
Mr Furbert said he believes that the House “should set up an Ethics Committee or as the UK Parliament calls it the Committee of Standards,” with the key responsibilities including “overseeing the operation of the Register of Members Financial interests and the other Registers, providing confidential advice to individual MPs, investigating allegations that MP’s are in breach of the code of conduct and its associated rules, and where appropriate, reporting findings to the Committee on standards, for the committee to adjudicate and recommend the appropriate sanctions.”

I thought Bean had proof.
I think the AG report might have some interesting evidence the other way though.
Why didn’t Wayne demand to see convincing evidence that what he heard was in fact the truth? Instead, he and others decided to accept whatever the tea drinker said. Blind followers aka sheeple!
Typical Wayne Furbert. Simply trying to be the center of attention. Deep down the man has nothing to offer. So what does he “do”. He introduced garbage and then does us all a big favour by withdrawing it!!! What a boring looser.
Well done Wayne, this is what Bermuda need and without hindrance from politicians. It is a Police matter, I have been saying this for a long time, finally it appears someone is listening.

So Mr. Bean’s wild ravings are being reigned in. Mr. Furbert even admits in his statement that the evidence that Mr. Bean claims is there, actually isn’t.

No it was obvious the PLP were tearing the country to pieces in their last term. Nonsense economics of a LARGE resource full country applied to a limited resource island.
It is obvious that the OBA are working hard to improve Bermuda.

Don’t you recall the ‘victory holiday’ that was declared after the plp’s initial win ? Businesses said that an unannounced holiday with the unscheduled interruption and unbudgeted overtime etc, was not a good idea . Especially on something as shallow as a change in government in a democratic system.
The then ‘new’ premiere declared that if they refused to observe the holiday they did so at their own peril .
The then IB company that I worked for was shocked at such language and knew way before most locals caught on that it was the thin edge of the sword. That’s when they all awoke from their political slumber and started really paying attention .
AS we all know now , the rest is history.

Mr. Furbert. Any chance you suggest there be a commission of inquiry into the missing money the AG claims is unaccounted for. We as a country could use the money to pay off our debts.

You were a part of that, it was your motion. Perhaps you should have sought proof BEFORE putting the motion forward.
I still chuckle at your claim that the Par-La-Ville Hotel was 99% there. You have a long history of saying things you have not researched properly or simply because someone told you to say it.
