Harneys Adds Five Lawyers To Bermuda Practice

Harneys announced the addition of five lawyers to its growing Bermuda practice, with Jayson Wood, Tim Frith and Matthew Watson joining Harneys’ litigation and insolvency practice, while the firm has hired Andrea Moniz-DeSousa and Alsha Wilson in its corporate practice.

Since opening in Bermuda just over three months ago, Harneys has continued to recruit local talent, and now numbers 22 staff including 9 lawyers. The firm said it plans to add further to its Bermuda practice in the coming months.

Jayson Wood Harneys Bermuda Jan 13 2016Jayson Wood is a Partner in Harneys’ Cayman office and a Registered Associate in Harneys’ Bermuda office. Mr. Wood has worked on many of the largest and most complex liquidations, shareholder disputes and restructurings in Cayman in recent years. He has over 20 years of legal experience in corporate and insolvency litigation, and specialises in hedge fund collapses, shareholder disputes, corporate fraud, receiverships/liquidations, asset preservation and corporate reconstruction. Mr. Wood recently spoke about Bermuda’s attractiveness as an asset management center during the EY Global Hedge Fund Symposium, which was held at HSBC Bermuda in November.

Timothy Frith Harneys Bermuda Jan 13 2016Tim Frith is Counsel in Harneys’ Bermuda litigation practice. He recently relocated to Bermuda from Harneys’ BVI office, following his call to the BVI Bar in October 2015. Mr. Frith was previously called to the Bermuda Bar in 2013 and has appeared frequently before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in Bermuda. Between 2012-2015 he was involved in multi-jurisdictional high value trust, commercial and insolvency cases before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in Bermuda and was further involved in commercial arbitrations, mediations and regulatory work on island. Prior to moving offshore from Devereux Chambers Mr. Frith practiced for 15 years at the UK Bar and had a Commercial and Corporate practice which built on wide ranging dispute resolution experience in UK, Singapore, Jordan, Thailand and Malaysia. Mr. Frith is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a CEDR accredited Mediator and a member of the Commercial Bar Association and International Bar Association.

Matthew Watson Harneys Bermuda Jan 13 2016Matthew Watson is a Registered Associate in Harneys’ Bermuda litigation practice. He is experienced in corporations law, disclosure and director obligations, fraud, shareholder and partnership disputes, unconscionable conduct, fiduciary duties, complex contractual disputes and applications for freezing orders and injunctions. Mr. Watson previously practiced in Australia, where he was involved in several high profile litigation cases in the State and Federal Courts of Australia.

Andrea Moniz-DeSouza Harneys Bermuda Jan 13 2016Andrea Moniz-DeSouza is a Senior Associate in Harneys’ Bermuda corporate practice.Ms. Moniz-DeSouza specialises in the establishment, operation and regulation of investment funds. She also has expertise in company and partnership formation, corporate restructurings, continuations and discontinuations, mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, asset financing, redomestications, aircraft registration, schemes of arrangement and the establishment, operation and regulation of insurance and reinsurance companies. Ms. Moniz-DeSouza is Bermudian, and is the Honorary Consul of Portugal in Bermuda.

Alsha Wilson Harneys Bermuda Jan 13 2016Alsha Wilson is an Associate in Harneys’ Bermuda corporate practice. Ms. Wilson’s practice areas include civil litigation, employment, labour, immigration, debt collection, human rights, landlord-tenant disputes, and personal injury. Ms. Wilson is Bermudian, and holds an LLB from The University of Kent and a BA in Law from Carleton University.
